RIFLE. shocked

Remington 700 BDL SPS .243 Win.

Name was drawn and I was shocked!
I'm going to give it to my oldest daughter as her first hunting rifle.
Not what I'd planned exactly, but, HEY!
I pick it up later this week.

So, new caliber for the safe.
Time to dig out the parts bin and hook her up with all the fixins.
I can't wait to see her face when I tell her, "It's yours."

Looks like this one:

Nice! Even cooler if its stainless. My older brother, myself, and my younger sister all started out with the same 243. Older brother even took a few elk with his. 100 grain TSX I believe. Have fun!

Thanks, guys!
Yeah, the first thing I was thinking was 'how can I change this thing?'...but then, I came to my senses.
I was thinking of changing the caliber to .308 to fit with the other rifles I have, but it just wouldn't be right.
It's going to be her rifle and I'll ask her if she wants to change it or not.

This is the daughter who went with me to the range when she was 7 to shoot the Marlin 15YS I bought her for her 7th birthday.
She couldn't sit on enough sandbags to get the rifle leveled out so I had to sight it in for her.
With big tears welling up inside her goggles, she was very frustrated, so I had her spot the shots through the spotting scope.
When we got it on target, she looks at me and says, "Dad, when we should do when we get home is put a bipod on it so I can shoot it laying down next time we go to 'the pit'..."
It was my turn to have tears right then!
I was so proud of her!
And we did exactly that.

She's big enough now that she's shot the AR10; BAR 7mm Rem.Mag. ( after seeing that one go off, she really wanted to shoot it! ); Beretta 1201FP ( with 3" Magnum slugs ); the AR15's; etc.
Next trip out she's getting a chance to shoot the Remington 700 POLICE / .308 and the 700 / 7mm Rem.Mag.
( The 700 / .375 ULTRA MAG is still a bit much for her, I think. eek )
She's a good kid and I'm looking forward to working on this project with her. cool

Nice, but a "free" gun like that would cost me $1000 by the time I was done with it, haha.

Picked it up today.
"FREE" means I spent $80.00 on the tickets and $47.00 on the Federal FUSION 95-gr. ammo.
laugh

Yeah, baby!
This is one nice piece of equipment.
I AM HAPPY with this nice surprise.
Now, to turn it over to my First Princess.
I have an unused 'NRA' marked thumbhole sling to put on it; with the first scope I put on a Remingtion 700 - a Denver-made Redfield Widefield Lo-Pro 3-9; and brand-new Redfield JR 1-pc. matte mount & low rings.
She's gonna love this gun!

Kind of funny how things turned out for getting her first hunting rifle.
Thank you for sharing in my excitement.
cool
