I had a 209X50 contender and while it was light and easy to carry and shot well with 100 grains of black horn 209 powder and 250 grain T/C shock waves I wouldn't let a kid shoot it. It kicked like a mule on steroids. If you are buying for a kid as light as it is (I realize you could drop the powder charge I did shoot it with 80 grains and it still had very heavy recoil) I would recommend the .45 caliber. I hope you don't mind my comment I just wanted to share my experience. I eventually sold the barrel as I didn't shoot it much because of the recoil and I also have a pro hunter encore that I carried all the time. Good luck with finding what your looking for.

TRM thanks for your input. Actually, I just traded one in, on another forum, and two of my sons shot it and both want one. I could imagine that with 150 gr of powder, it weighing alot less than the encore would have a hefty kick, but we usually only shoot 100 gr in all of our muzzleloaders. thanks again jim

May I add?
OK Thanks

I almost hunt exclusively with M/L I was shooting and Omega and last year shot an Accura.
I set up an Encore and shot it for the first time yesterday. I took the wood stock off and replaced it with a pro hunter stock (with Limbsaver) that is said to cut down on recoil. It does I was really surprised how nice it shot.

Thanks Hank
