The .375 REMINGTION ULTRA MAGNUM cartridge: an instant Dinosaur, if you will. A thread was recently started about 'personality' of cartridges, and I responded with this one. When I first pulled the trigger on my .375 ULTRA, I knew instantly that I'd found 'The .375' I was looking for. Equal to a 3" 12-ga. Magnum slug in felt recoil, it lets you know you've fired a GUN. When I last shot this firearm, a Remington 700 BDL, I was reminded of the Star Trek movie wherein Captain Kirk says: "I don't want my pain taken away; I NEED MY PAIN!"The story is that Spock's half-brother can 'share your pain'. I contend that cartridges such as the .375 RUM allow the hunter to 'share the pain' with the animal he is about to take the life from. View that line here for fun: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLzJAebfEIgSHARE YOUR PAIN with us. What cartridges do you shoot that cause a Newton's 3rd Law effect on you?

I had a stainless Ruger #1 Tropical in 416 Rigby. It was a sweet rifle, but no fun to shoot. I no longer have it.
My 300 Win mag will handle everything on this continant, and it is a joy to shoot.

The muzzle blast from my barrett. Somebody close to me has to die before I can say that...

it's alloy Badger Ordinance M4 bottom metal. i had to open the inlet, but it fits/functions good, and has about four times the apparent strength of the stock BDL metal.

My 416 Rigby. Got me into the SCI book, and is very comfortable in one's hands when in the presence of the big nasty's. Thought I was going to have to sell it but have been getting shots in my neck and can now still manage it for a few rounds.

I want no part of Toad's rifle!
That would take some practice, my little 7lb(scoped) 300WSM is plenty for me. A 308 would actually be more fun....grin

2.5" Smith Model 19 with the stock wood round butt grips. 125 or 158 grain .357 Magnums get your attention.
This is a shooting forum, there is no place here for logic.

A couple of shots from a 375 H & H on an Encore frame got my attention.

my .375 Ultra. it's put on a lot of miles with me this year. had it out in the mountains today, in fact. (general rifle season opener here) My goodness, how do you sneek up on critters? I figure the sound of your brass nads clanking off one another would scare them away! You are a crazy man!
When I die I hope I don't start voting democrat.

Not mine but a H&R single shot in 3 1/2" turkey loads will definitely put air bubbles in your blood.

Hey, I've got one of those and I took the steel rod out of the buttstock. It's there to somewhat lessen the recoil, but the thing recoils upward so it didn't help much. I did put a grind to fit limbsaver on it and I ground the pad with a taper so the back of the pad is full width. The gun is a pleasure to carry, but it will get your attention with 3.5s. I mostly shoot 3 inch ammo out of it.

Used to have a Timber Carbine in .444 Marlin. 5 1/2 pounds and shooting full on 300 grain loads was a real teeth rattler on the bench. Every shot felt like a left hook from Mike Tyson.
It was ported, too.. Came in handy clearing space to shoot at the tin can range.
I replace valve cover gaskets every 50K, if they don't need them sooner...

BTDT Rancho,
Redneck Bubba friend of mine had a 45-70 Marlin Guide gun with plastic butt plate that he was shooting some kind of whacked out bullet called a "Pile Driver". I think it was 525 grains and this clown loaded it to the gills and beyond...
I shot it twice and asked him if he enjoyed being and idiot.
I've never shot anything that has come close to hurting like that one did and that includes a .375 and a .416
