I have had a 140 acre farm for the entire time I have lived at my current location. Rifle season opened Saturday and on Friday afternoon at 3:30 PM I received a call telling me to get my stands off the property. The call was received from a person who had rented my farm out from under me.
Needless to say I felt like I was kicked in the balls by this person, given the fact that I lost my place and that I received the call about 15 hours before I'd be out there!
Now, I have NO place to hunt this fall...the first time that has happened since I was a sophomore in High School. I'm now 54 years old....and am so upset I feel like jumping off a bridge.
The guy owns over 150,000 acres and they felt the need to lease an additional 140 acres? Give me a break.
Were you paying rent / leasing / labor to the landlord or hunting for free the whole time? You didn't state your arrangement so were expecting it was free and you want sympathy.
The farmer that owns the 140 acres probably needs the money to survive and the new farmer/renter needs the acres to support that large of operation and he doesn't need your stray bullets around his livestock or equipment so you lose. Sorry - farming is a tough business now and you should have been working that relationship more. I rent my farm land out and lease hunting land and these guys get a good deal because they couldn't come close to paying the value on the land in a lifetime of renting and I am just looking to offset my bills and have a good relationship with my renter and lease hunter.
