It was snowing here at about 11:00 last night.

That was some pretty neat patterns that old Jack Frost left on everything last night.

We may see a few flurries here today. Good day at Cabelas yesterday. Used up all my points. Wife wasn't to happy with me, which means I dun good. grin

I'll be slaving away over a hot stove today making up a big batch of venison chili for camp.

I can attest to Bill's chili. It's some tasty stuff, one of the best I've had.

It looks like it may be a bit warm in the Duluth area for the opener. Warmer than I like to see anyway. 40's. That doesn't make for very good snow conditions.

Last night after work the plowed fields around my house were white. I thought it had snowed but later learned that it was hail from a thunderstorm that went through.

Strange weather

I'll officially be hitting the first 10 days of the season pretty hard. Ma has activities planned for the kids on the second weekend with the grandma's coming over, so I got the word to keep hunting. grin I have a feeling there will be a lot of shopping involved.

The third weekend, I'll take Jack up with me and see if we can find a deer. I'm hoping I'm tagged up by then and have to buy a bonus tag, which is fine. I think he'll be more interested in a camp fire though.

Man, I wish we had 40* weather on our opener last weekend. It was in the high 60's when I was sneakin' through the brush last Saturday.

I've got tomorrow off and Saturday to try and bag me a wily wapiti (cow) and a buck deer. Wish it was going to be colder but the forecast is mid 50's. Better, but not great.

Where the heck is northern_dave? Deer camp is a few days away and he isn't on here to be found.

Must be out checking his scrape lines?

More likely the ND clan traquilized his azz.....making scrapes in the house and rubbing on the doorjamb....there is only so much a person can take. They gotta keep him in fighting trim shape for the squids, flying bears, leopard squirrels, etc. can't have the stamina stomped before season starts.

Bill,

Normally I hunt in southern Utah. Last year I did a late season cow elk hunt in the Plateau, Boulder unit and the year before in the "Southern" deer unit and Salina Canyon for spike elk.

I decided with the cost of gas I'd hunt closer to home this year. I have a cow tag for the Chalk Creek, Private Lands unit (first time on that unit) and a "Northern" deer unit tag.

I hunted the opener between Bountiful and Francis peak and saw nothing but 5 ruffed grouse and one bull moose (about a billion other hunters!). I've got tomorrow off and will chase both buck deer and cow elk in the Chalk Creek range tomorrow and Saturday.

Then my hunting season is over for the year. frown
