So upset with the Rangers ...mad at Cruz for not simply catching a fly ball....Michael Young at first base....Elvis throwing to first instead of second..was all set to give up and go to bed when Josh Hamilton hit the two run hoomer giving me hope.....until........I saw OH-GOD-NO take the mound! You got that right, and Washingdum likes him.
The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time by the blood of patriots and tyrants.
If being stupid allows me to believe in Him, I'd wish to be a retard. Eisenhower and G Washington should be good company.

Has anyone noticed the very strong resemblance the Card's manager, La Russa, has to Muammor Ghadahfi (sp.?). I wonder if they are long lost brothers???? L.W.

[quote=AkMtnHntr]How do you not pitch to a guy that isn't hitting (Pujols) and pitch to a guy that is knocking the cover off the ball (Berkman)?
Your hindsight would seem to be pretty darn good....but.... what if the Rangers manager decided to pitch to Pujols and he hit a homer? Then what would your hindsight be.....he should have walked him and pitched to Berkman?
I doubt you could find a major league manager anywhere who would have chosen to pitch to Pujols in that situation last night.

... holliday wasn't pulled out cuz of his pinky, he was pulled for [bleep] up to much i think... When is the last time that a catcher picked a runner off third in a major league game? I remember back in the early 60s, Earl Battey picked seven (7) off third during the season. I would bet that not many current catchers even throw to third that many times in their careers. Rod Carew stole home 7 times one season. That doesn't happen any more either.

The way I see tonite's game is that the Rangers CAN pitch around a couple of the Cardinal hitters and increase their chances.
The Rangers lineup is dangerous top to bottom so who do you pitch around?
But the Cards have Carpenter and he can pitch to ANYONE.
Pretty even match up as the 3-3 tie would indicate.

I've always thought he looked like a young Johnny Cash. But - back to the game - it was the most entertaining World Series baseball game I have ever watched in my life! Wow! Those teams deserve a a game 7!

Good baseball sense expressed by both - and in reply to the statement, I think that LaRussa would have chosen to pitch to Pujols in that situation in that game.. I dunno....I think LaRussa would have walked Pujols also.....for these reasons. The score was 9-8 Rangers with Jay on first when Pujols came up to bat. Pujols is more of a home run threat (albeit by just a little) than Berkman. One swing of the bat and a homer from Pujols and the game is over. So walking Pujols is playing the percentages....yes... doing so put a runner in scoring position, and... this is the trade-off. Also Berkman, even though he has been doing well, is vulnerable to striking out on good breaking balls low and in, and this is probably what the pitcher for the Rangers was trying to do, but he didn't get his pitches exactly where he wanted them.
