I want to understand a bit about the current market for new hunting rifles.
What do people get when they have some extra cash and have wanted a nice new rifle for a long time, but do not want to spend $6,000 and up for a Dakota?

Hard to answer that. What are you doing with it? Big game, varmint, target, ect? That is a pretty open ended question. Details please.
My next rifle is going to be either a SS model 70 or Rem 700 in 280AI or 7 WSM for launching the heavier 7mm projectiles at whitetails.

Top of the line American Made, non-custom? Winchester, Remington..

...What do people get when they have some extra cash and have wanted a nice new rifle for a long time, but do not want to spend $6,000 and up for a Dakota?... They have a custom rifle built. But there are plenty of very nice production rifles to suit every budget. I chose the Sako 75 Grey Wolf in .260 Rem. You can get a lot more bang for the buck by buying a near-mint used one. What's your budget?

A lot of unanswered questions..Wood or Synthetic stock, blue or stainless, lightweight, what is it being used for??
American companies such as Kimber, Weatherby, Remington and Winchester offer enough choices and price points. Add in a company like Cooper and your price point goes up a little but again, many choices to suit your needs.

They buy a Cooper or Kimber Super America.

That is a simple answer. They find someone who will make a custom to their specification rifle. There a few fellows out there with CNC equipment to make pretty much whatever you want. In some cases for less than the six grand you mentioned.

Cadillac and Lincolns are nice, but let's talk Maybachs..
I replace valve cover gaskets every 50K, if they don't need them sooner...

I dunno, man. When I hear Caddy/Lincoln, I immediately think of cars/trucks that cost a bunch more than their Chebby/Ford counterparts, yet usually offer if not inferior, equal performance. But look like something a pimp/NBA player would drive.
This is a shooting forum, there is no place here for logic.

It's funny that a Dakota would be the end all..

My local gun shop stocks a large number of Coopers. The owner knows I am not going to buy one but he will let me take a look.

I couldn't tell ya. I would get a Dakota if I had a bunch of extra money. All the same they don't kill any better than my Ruger though. Much like an old Crown Vic cab will get you to the airport just as easy as a stretch Lincoln. More about utility and simplicity than flash.

I went NULA and I wasn't disappointed, but it is more of a BMW than a Cadillac/Lincoln. Those would be custom shop Win/Rems or perhaps Weatherby.
