I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Nula,Sako 75&85 in that order My thoughts also, Shot and have played with the NULAs, cant say enough nice things about them. This may be heresy to some but after having played a bit with a new 85 the other day it's got me thinking my safe is a little to fat with pre-64 70's. Gawd..... I can't believe I just said that

for off the shelf rifles (or those in stock available for sale): 1. dakota 2. cooper 3. a "custom shop" gun
mass produced/assembly line stuff by rem, win, kimber, etc. would be down the list imo.

Kimber Selects, Super America or Cooper and maybe the Super Grade Winnies.
++++++ on the too many. I think I have 5 or 6 rifles and 3 handguns in the Texas safe unfired.
Probably a couple more of each in Kentucky.

Has no one mentioned the excellent Nosler 48 rifle? I can't recommend a Kimber as I have read way way too many horror stories with this brand, I'd stay away from that crap shoot at all costs.........Hb

I want to understand a bit about the current market for new hunting rifles.
What do people get when they have some extra cash and have wanted a nice new rifle for a long time, but do not want to spend $6,000 and up for a Dakota?
Unless I run into something used that I really like, there's nothing factory and currently made that interests me.....for anything over $2k, but under $6k, I'm building.
The 280 Remington is overbore.
The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.

I'd look into Sako's Classic Deluxe. EuroOptics has them for $3600. Classic sporting features in a dressed up walnut stock. Beretta has cheated us (again)out of the set trigger, which is standard in Europe.

If I was in the market for a "premium" off the shelf rifle these would be my choices and in this order.
Merkel KR-1 Sako 85 Deluxe Cooper of some flavor
