Will a pre-64 Model 70 action originally barreled with a .338 tube take the .375 without any modification to the action? My research indicates the factory may have made some mods to the front, underneath and the magazine to accomodate the H&H chamberings.

It will not. It will, however, handle the 375 Ruger with no problem. GD

If you compare the two side by side, you will notice the loading port has been opened up in the front and rear and the magazine box and action underside is also longer. The reality is, the action can be opened up like an original H&H action by a qualified individual.

Of course it can. The question though was whether or not the 375 would fit without modifications being made to the action. It will not.
I hesitate to mention it but I think it is germane that the only Model 70 I have seen wherein the lugs had most definitely set back, was a Pre-64 300H&H action. GD
