I am out of order until further notice. My "stupid people" filter needs cleaning and my "give a damn" batteries have run out.

Berettaman, nice elk.. I think the whole room looks great dont understand why the women get fired up about that kind of stuff..

The third picture with the pheasant, is it suppose to look like its just been shot, or am i looking at it wrong... I have never seen one done like that before... Cool looking ......

Tell brad to just put the gas tank on the roof of that chevy so the fuel can just gravity feed to the engine.

We did that with our Pug, but it's on top of the engine cover since it doesn't have a roof. Works great.

Heading out to the rifle range this morning to site in the 45-70.

Good luck to all of you heading out for the MN opener this weekend. I'm sure Dave will be sending out regular updates.

I can try, every now and then I can get just barely enough signal to sneak an update out from camp with my phone.

Sometimes it works from an elevated stand, not sure if it will work from my new stand yet.

Berettaman, the whole room looks great. The new mount just sets everything else off.I like it all.

Dave, thanks for the definition.Yeah,we just remodeled the kitchen.C'mon down and cook some of your famous chili. We will convert the living room to a bunk house for the kids.

I wear my CB hat when I go hunting.I always have to explain what it represents.A good group of people bound together by one man's vision.

Muffy, want to buy back one hat?I have an extra.

Grizzly,my favorite 45/70 load is 40 gr. of REL7 and a 300 gr. jhp.Try it,you'll like it.

The more I listen,the more I hear....and vice versa.

45/70,it's almost a religion.

If you have to take a second shot then you probably shouldn't have taken the first shot.

Captain bang flop arrowed a deer a couple of days ago so I requested that he carve a big chunk off that fresh deer and bring it up to camp for the chili pot.

He's all rev'd up like the rest of us, he says he'll be up to camp pretty early on Friday (tomorrow shocked )

Good luck Chickenbuckers. I'd like to be up there with ya. I hope the deer sightings are pleniful, the food filling and the memories lasting.

I'll be thinking of the glow of the cabin lantern and the busy bodies running around gathering up last minute gear, as the sun starts to light the morning sky with the pink light breaking through the clouds as you climb into your stands.

Good luck to all the fellow hunters, be safe, shoot straight.

tom

I didn't think the Captain got rev'd up. He's a cool customer and a heckova hunter. Say hi to him for me.

Stan, I'm using 50 Gr of Rel 7 and a 300 Gr Hornady HP in my #1. No pressure issues and recoil isn't bad at all.

My buddy's pushing 405 grain Remington SP's out of his Marlin at a little over 1800 fps. Recoil is on the stout side. He's piled up a lot of deer over the years with it.

I think I need a 45-70. I don't have a lever...I'll have to change that.

My 450 marlin will be going to camp tomorrow, and the 264, and probably the 88 winchester in 308

So I'll have 2 levers out there.

Bman,

That is a beautiful mount. You taxi does good work! The whole room is really nice.

Good luck to everyone going out this weekend and be safe! I myself have yet to decide if I'm going to buy a firearms tag (shotgun zone) or just hunt with my bow.

I did pick up some slugs last night just in case. I sure miss the days when our old hunting party was together. frown It was made up of Uncles and cousins and nephews of uncles on the other side of the family. It was great times. Then the Uncles got older and quit and everyone else just kind of went their own way. I still hunt the land primarily with archery gear and I love that but there is just something missing at this time of year. Its not the killing of a deer with a gun that I miss so much. Its the comradery. The stories. The laughs. The hoping that your oldest uncle finally "gets his horns". The man could drop a bambi in its tracks from 150 yards with a shotgun but could not hit a buck to save his life in all those years. It made for alot of good natured ribbing every year but everyone in that party wished he could get his horns deep down. He passed away this year without ever getting his buck. I hope God see's to it that he gets the biggest buck in the woods upstairs this weekend.

However, this is the first year we can use rifle in my county, so I am super excited to finally break the 110 in on a deer. Had it for 10 years and the only blood it has is a bunch of woodchucks. Missed a small buck in the dacks the first year I had it.

Mikey, you in Waupaca County?

No. I hunt in Western NY. Just love reading this thread and had to post that I am super jealous!

I'd rather have a bad day hunting than a good day working!
