Deer down and dressed by 0800. I am so in the running to win the dink competition for this season. Tenderloins on the grill for dinner and now it's time to use my "real" tag for buckzilla.

Pics to follow when I get home.

My 11 year old hunted with me for the first time yesterday on the opener. By 8 a.m. We had a large 8 pt hang up in one of my shooting lanes chasing a hot doe, just long enough for the young hunter to put a 223 TSX in his lungs. Pretty happy hunter, small rack for a deer that dressed 235#.

I was happy that the deer only went 20 yards, there was no blood and the bullet didn't exit, although I can feel it under the hide on the opposite shoulder.

Proud young man and pics to follow.

Pard took a nice ten point at noon yesterday at the same time I was watching a button buck. Pics from home.

Where's everyone hunting?

My first three deer seasons were spend up near Cotton, MN. That was back from '86-'89. Didn't see but a few deer in those three years, but sure miss the old shack atmosphere.

Back in those days it wasn't unusual to have a foot or two of snow either.

I've been back a few more times in more recent years and filled my tags and sure do miss it up there.

Looking forward to pics...

No luck here. Of the 4 guys up at deer camp no deer were seen (except some does on the road Friday night pulling in). Too windy all weekend. Didn't hear too many shots, either, but a guy a mile down the road came by and he got a spike and his buddy got an 8 pointer. Looks like we maybe just had bad luck. Going to see if I can get work off next Sunday and hunt all day Sunday & Monday morning before coming back for work again.

This was up in Itasca county.
