We often hear how this or that bullet performs, how this shot placement results in less deer running, but what is your longest streak on "BANG FLOP" (no deer) deer kills and expanding on that would be nice to know what caliber you were using?

It's going to be between 100 and 120 deer and one Pronghorn Antelope for me.

About 1983 I settled on Sierra and Nosler Ballistic Tip bullets for all my deer shooting and I haven't had anything but one shot, bang-flop kills since.

These are the center-fire cartridges and bullets I am using to kill deer.

222. Rem with 55 grain Sierra
220 Swift with 63 grain Sierra
243 Win with 95 grain Ballistic Tip
25-06 Rem with 100 grain Sierra and 100 grain Nosler Balistic Tip.
270 Win with 130 grain Sierra and Nosler Ballistic Tip.
7mm Rem Mag with 120 grain Hornady V-Max and 140 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips.

Fragile bullets and proper shot placement has been working for me.

I shot some old-stock 150gr .30cal Ballistic Tips at 3,350fps+ for several deer seasons. I shot something over 15 deer with that load with only one failing to drop. That deer went only a few yards. Bloodshot shoulders were the norm.

this year

bear shot at 100yds 270win,went 10ft
buck shot with xbow, stood still for about a minute and fell over.
buck shot with muzzleloader and the dreaded powerbelt, went 25yds at most. couldn't go far with a split heart. so far sense saturday i know of 8 clean kills, all pass thru shots using the 295pb. but we all know they never kill well, lol.

I try not to shoot em so they bang flop unless I"m meat hunting does or such and then its head only shots.

Really don't have a streak then basically. Did shoot 4 does in a row in the head last Jan, but tahts about it.

Body shots, I don't recall the last one that bang flopped. Probably about circa 1979 or so as a kid using the wrong bullet in 243 that blew up and knocked one down...

To answer your caliber question, 243 win and went to 105s and 100s. 300wtby and 180 X bullets. 308 Win and target 185 bergers covers most all that I've used with a smattering of 223 and 6mm woa tossed in. Everything with heavy for caliber bullets.

Of course if I wanted bang flops I"d shoot for CNS like does or hit the front end of them around the spine area, but thats too much wasted meat for my tastes.

With regards to "one rifle" I've had 10 bang flops with a 338-06 using 210 gr. Nosler Partitions @ 2670fps; mixture bag of does, bucks and coyotes. It's the only gun I've owned that I've never had a game animal take another step with. I know, it's using a hammer to kill flies but it works well at killing them.

I know there is a crowd following of "High Velocity, Light Weight Bullets" but this slow roller heavy weight has impressed the stew out of me.

I've had several streaks of 4 or 5 in a row. I once bang-flopped 3 does in under 60 seconds grin Could have got one or two more, but I didn't want to load or skin any more.

30-06 - 150gr SST

Probably have had 75% bang flops with this load and have killed almost 40 deer with it.

I have a nearly twenty year run of bang flops on deer with a 270 Weatherby using their 130 factory load.

We are talking about several dozen deer.

I generally aim for a center shoulder shot, but have hit some in the lungs and still had the same result.

I have a similar run going with a 300 win mag using 150 grain hornady spire points, but I did have one big nine point buck get about 10 yards.

3 with the .300 Savage, 165gr. Speer RN. loaded to about 2600 with IMR 4320 out of a 99EG. All three went straight down, average range to the deer was about 35 yards. Stupidly sold the gun.

A whole bunch when I shot them with the aid of a spotlight from a highrack truck in the head - all with a state collection permit of course smile

In actual hunting conditions not many. I usually go for the plain old boring double lunger.
