Other than a VERY heavy stock and a flyweight barrel balancing poorly, I like it.
Anybody who seriously concerns themselves with the adequacy of a Big 7mm for anything we hunt here short of brown bear, is a dufus. They are mostly making shidt up. Crunch! Nite-nite!

I do not understand the original laminate stock but throw it in an Edge Mountain rifle stock and it is a complete different beast.

Sell the stock (very easy to sell here) and drop it in something else. I built a faux Ti off of one and it was great!

Hey Rich, Purchase the 700 MR LSS 30-06. Sold the laminated stock and dropped it into a new Ti take-off stock. Had Karl at Kampfeld Customs flute the bolt. Rifle is scary accurate. 2 shots with 1 hole. Recently traded for a 700 MR LSS 260. Haven't fired this rifle yet. May drop this one into a McMillan MR Edge Tech and get rid of the heavy laminated stock. What cliber are you looking for ? Ken

I had an LSS in 30-06 several years ago . I couldn't get that thing to shoot well enough to suit me . I adjusted the trigger and glass beded it . Tried floating the barrel , it really didn't like that at all . So I put the Pressure point back . No better , had to give up . Now I am a Remington guy , have been for ever and that LSS is the only one I've ever had that wouldn't shoot , with very little if any tweaking . It was such a pretty gun too .

What's the advantage of an LSS over an XCR II? Mine in 375 H&H came in at 6 1/2 lbs empty without scope / rings / ammo or sling. I had some quality control issues with my XCR II but don't believe they are limited to that model (extractor too big to chamber a round easily).

Other than a VERY heavy stock and a flyweight barrel balancing poorly, I like it. Yep. I never could get used to the balance on the 30-06 that I had. Butt-heavy laminates don't belong on rifles with skinny barrels, even if the stock pattern is relatively svelte. Put a bit more barrel in that forend and you are typically a bit more cramped for space, but balance is much better.
Now with even more aplomb

No doubt. Those SS 280 Mountain Rifles are not easy to come by.

No doubt. Those SS 280 Mountain Rifles are not easy to come by. Yeah, I'm finding that out. I bought two EDGE fill Mickeys inlet for MRs, just before Remington dumped the model. Whoops, Why two? Because I wanted to compare the KS to the Mountain Rifle pattern.

Rich, got two. They are butt heavy. I hollowed out the butt on my 7-08; now it balances nicely, but that's a chore for sure!
My 7-08 shoots great, the 30-06 not so much so I retubed it.
The CENTER will hold.
