I've checked Cameraland, Opticsplanet, B&H Photo, Adorama, and no one seems to be carrying the Nikon MC Series 27x Eyepiece for the Nikon ED50 Fieldscope Spotting Scope.

If anyone has any leads please let me know.

Does it take the same one as the 82mm scope? I will look tomorrow to see what I have. I bought a nikon off ebay and while waiting to get it I bought a new in box eyepiece(highly recommended by the bird watcher forums). I think it was around that power. The spotting scope turned out to be a scam. So I ended up with only the eyepiece.

Thanks, Dman. Sorry to hear you got scammed. Hopefully you recovered your $! I'm looking for the 27x eyepiece which is made for 50mm scopes. This one. It's different than what would work for a 82mm, but it seems like they're hard to source...

The one you are looking for is the Nikon #7464 27x/40x/50x Wide Eyepiece which is 27x on a 50mm scope, 40x on their 60mm and 50x on their 78mm&82mm scopes

I looked and this is what I got. It is a 24x(60) and 30x(78) wide model wf. So I guess it would be to low of a power for you. I need to sell it but not sure what it is worth.

Good luck finding a Nikon 27x #7464 WA eye piece.

You might want to include Nikon part #6950 in your search. It is the digiscope WA 27x eye piece. Same spec's as the 7464, but designed for digiscoping (easier to mount a camera behind). Doug at one time had these in stock.

The one you've got is the Nikon #6954 16x/24x/30x Wide Digiscoping Eyepiece which sells new @ $249.99 and used for about $150.00 if it is clean.

I'm not so sure they'd be that useful. In daylight with the sun high, it is sometimes necessary to turn down the magnification in order to see the image more clearly. E

I've heard images are brighter and crisper using the 27x, there is a wider FOV and more forgiving eye relief...?

If anyone has firsthand knowledge, I'd love to hear whether it's worth it.

The only way to really be sure is to get one and try it out. I'd buy through a guy that will refund your money if it doesn't work out. Doug is excellent is this regard.
When I bought my 50mm ED Nikon, I insisted on getting the older variable eye piece which went up to 40x. Doug sent me a fixed 21X ( I'm not sure of this magnification ) to also try. So, I compared all three of them. The fixed magnification eye piece was sharper than the older 40X eye piece. But not against the new one which only goes to 30X. Frankly, it's rare day when I can use more than 27X and get the sharpest image.
BTW, if you get more field of view, then the eye releif gets shorter. With that scope, less eye relief is not what you want. At 25-27X, it's really a little too short. E

With the wide angle eye piece, that is correct.


The non-WA 27X Fieldscope #7461 has 9.4mm eye relief and the FOV is only 89'

The 13-30x zoom that comes standard (#7466) has 13mm eye relief and a FOV of 157' at 13x

ER and FOV decreases noticeably through 30x....


Whereas the wide angle #7464 and #6950 Digiscoping WA 27x EP has 17mm eye relief and FOV of 141'


A significant difference, and readily apparent for those that actually have and use it.... especially for those of us that wear glasses.

If there is better eye relief (17mm vs. 13mm) and comparable FOV (141' vs 157') in the 27x wide angle as the 13x (set on the low end of the 13-30x), then it would seem to be a no brainer.

I've been reading bird watching forums and all of them are using the 27x wide angle with this scope.

I have both the WA 20x and 27x for my ED50

Both eyepieces are head and shoulders above the standard zoom in terms of ER, FOV, clarity, contrast, and brightness.

The non WA fixed eyepieces are dog crap.

I would point out that most bird watching occurs at short ranges. Whereas we hunters often use our spotting scopes at ranges measured in miles. That means the birders don't have the problems that hunters do with UV light and mirage distorting the scope's image. That's one reason why I prefer a variable. E

I'm coming up short on both ends, finding either the Nikon 27x #7464 WA eye piece, or the #6950 (27X WA digiscoping eyepiece).

If anyone has one they're willing to sell, or if you know who may have them in stock please let me know.

I found the WA 27x eyepiece at Sinclair International.

That's the only place I was able to find it, in case anyone else is looking.
