No pigs up here. I'm not sure why, if the exist in Russia I'm sure our temps wouldn't be a problem for the right kind of pig.
Something clever here.

Who knew that black bears liked apple flavored mineral blocks with molasses deer atractant poured on top? Sonofabich took the whole block! That wasn't the little brick sized either it was the big size! Stupid bear! That was for the deer! I had one out in 'sconny a few years ago and it was gone the next week. We couldn't figure out who would have taken an opened mineral block....I found it about 30 yards from my blind and about 50 yards in the oposited direction that it was supposed to be. Had to be bears. It was partially chewed or clawed up.

Back in the day, a Minnesota hunter could hang his deer tag on a beer if he so chose.
Is this still true?

I fired 3 shots this season & ended up with 4 venisons. I have been accused of being frugal before but I think this is getting a little out of hand.....

Well another firearm deer season in Minnesota is in the books for me. It was a great season, yet I am eating tag soup. this last weekend was pretty anticlimatic....save for one brief period when i had Mr. Buford, the big 6 pointer, come chasing in a doe and i mistook him for a big'un. The heartrate accelerated a mite, but in the end, nothng. I did see a snowy owl, which is certainly a highlight of this year's hunt. also, the pheasant population is much better than anticipated. I got the kids out, which was fun. All in all, a very enjoyable year. On the bad side, my wife's gramma died last night. She was known as "The Fun Gramma". She once took the kids to Valley Fair...and stayed until midnight...with a 2 hour drive to get back home. Now that is a fun Gramma, eh? It was a blessing as she had dementia and didnt recognize anyone. So Chickenbuckers, how are you enjoying the 2011 version of Deer Huntin' in the northwoods? Any good stories that need airing? Hey Bill....are you sure you packed your knife? You better go through and repack everything again!
What you do today is important, you are trading a day in the rest of your life for it.

We're saving the best for last. The weather man says winter will be here by the weeks end.
So we're going to get out and do some of that old fashioned cold and snowy MN deer hunting during this "second week of deer camp"
I may take thurdsay and Friday off, get a jump on it and hit the woods harder than I have up to this point for 2011.
The deer haven't exactly been coming to me this year so I guess I have to put some miles on the boots and bring me to them.
Something clever here.
