Hi Guys-I'm new to S&K's and just put on two sets of S&K's rings and bases. The 270 was fine but the 300wby scope had some movement. So how tight do you go with out leaving ring marks and still hold the scope?

In proper fashion, I did read the instructions after installing and shooting. laugh They claim you really cannot get them too tight, but I really don't buy it. Instructions are to go as tight as you can with the short end of allen wrench then 1/8" more with long end.

Looking back I know I was not tight enough, but I'm need to know how tight to go without marring the scope.

Thanks for the help.

Don't know, either. Have been using light coat of rubber cement inside rings, and tighten to "yeah, that's tight as I dare". No marks yet, no screws have come loose (no big kickers here, however).

Finger tight with the Allen wrench has worked well for me. No problems but then my two rifles I use the S&K's on have no appreciable recoil.

I have a set on my FN 30-06 and used the little paper "sticky's" that Burris supplies with their mounts and then tightened as tight as I could with the short end of my allen wrench and nothing has moved.

The instructions that came with mine suggested using a light coat of auto gasket maker on the inside of the rings. I used the supplied wrench according to the instructions and haven't had a problem on the 260 Rem it's mounted on. I don't particulary care about marks on the scope and I don't want slippage. I think because of the nature of the design you are less likely to get marks on your scope. Just inspect the inside first for rough spots. I've purchased used scopes before that had some rings marks on them. A little Flitz will usually buff them out.
