That is some fine shooting, I guess I better get out and practise.

Stick
I am confused, how does one set a record and have the second-smallest group? I also thought I had read on this board last year of a group in the 1.39" range at a 1000? Is this a record for a sanctioned event only?
art
Mark Begich, Joaquin Jackson, and Heller resistance... Three huge reasons to worry about the NRA.

Holy smokes! I'd be happy with a group like that at 200 yards, let alone 1000 yards.
Is it Friday yet?

Sitka,

I believe he had the record group and also the second smallest group to boot.

This was the Record for Light Gun Class. I would guess any group fired smaller than that, must have been in a different Class.

Someone please correct my perceptions,if they are incorrect...............

Hello

The IBS light gun 5 shot record was lowered to 1.6" last year.

So far the 5 shot NBRSA record was just broke recently and is at 1.4"

The 10 Shot light gun record at Williamsport is 4.5"
(I don't recall to the thousands what the group size is, only to the tenths)

The heavy gun 10 Shot record is 3.151" at Williamsport and all the 1000 yard clubs shoot 10 shots in the Heavy gun class. No other organization or club has beaten that Heavy gun record to date.

Darryl Cassel

Sitka - Theoretically, you can have the third, fourth or fifth largest group in your class, but still win. If your entire group happens to be in the X ring, you win in total points. The guy with the best over all group could have a 1.25" group in the 5 ring and lose the match in points.

Wasnt this one of those math word problems on the SAT?
Somebody needs to tell that guy that the short .264" neck on a .300WinMag is too small to properly hold a bullet therefore rendering the .300 inaccurate

My buddy has a Sendero in .300WM that shoots about 1.5"groups at 300yds as witnessed by myself, badger, and littlebit one time at our first Southeast shootersfest!!

Mike

Sitka

It would not be a record if a person had the "second" smallest group or second highest Score.
A record is the best of the best at Williamsport, IBS 1000 yard and NBRSA 1000 yard Heavy gun matches.

We have two seperate catagories.
If you shoot a record "Group", it can be anywhere on the target as long as all 10 shots are on paper.
If it's a "score" record, of course the group will no doubt be centered more so in the middle of the target.

You can't set a World record Group or Score in 1000 yard match shooting any other way.

If two people shoot the EXACT same group, lets say 3.100" then you take the best score of the two and THAT breaks the tie.

Same with a Score tie, the best Group breaks the tie.

There are no points given in the 1000 yard World record catagories as a COMBINED Group and score measurment.

This could be a "Club" event however.

Being at Williamsport for the last 15 years, I am very much up on the rules and have been responsible for sending our records to Guinness in England.

The IBS and NBRSA Heavy gun works the same way. 10 shots for record in the Group "and" score catagories.

There are also 6 match and 10 match aggregates (average) in the Group and Score (seperate again) catagories too.
Darryl Cassel
