Starting weight they claim is 5lbs 1oz.

Which scope, rings, and sling give me the best shot at staying under 6lbs?

Is it even possible?

3-9x33 Ultralight Leupy weighs like 8 or 9 oz I believe.

Add a light scope and Talleys and you're gonna be really really light. I wouldn't worry too much about staying under 6!

Talley LW, FX-II 6x36mm on an 84M Montana .338Fed will get you close.

Uncle Mikes mtn. sling, three in the belly, sans lens cap, and perhaps the Ti bolt handle mod. would put you just under 6 pounds.

You could probably scrape a half-ounce of paint off that one and be there... grin

Mine in 308 weighs 5 lbs. 15 oz. with a Leupold VX-3 2.5-8X scope in Talley lightweights. That scope weighs 11.5 oz, there are a few lighter ones. A Butler Creek Mt. sling weighs about 4 oz. With a sling and 4-5 rounds of ammo, and an 8 oz scope you should be pretty close, but I don't think you can get under 6# with everything.

FWIW, a few extra oz on the Kimber doesn,t hurt. As long as I keep mine around 6.5#'s ready to hunt that is close enough for me.

I'm starting with a .338 Federal. I'm ordering Talleys today, and am still undecided on a scope.

Mine has the Uncle Mike's sling & Talleys. If I switched to a 6x36 I think i'd be just a tic under 6 lbs (rifle, sling, scope, mounts) without ammo.

Edit: with four rounds of ammo it would be 6lb 3oz

I'm with fosteology, my 257 boy is almost exactly where he is save mines wears a VX3 2.5-8. The only way to shed a few ozs would be either bullets (.8oz each) or scope, can't cut much anywhere else. I basically only hunt on 2.5 so I though about an ultralight 2.5 (6.5ozs). I would be under 6lbs easy. I doubt I end up there though.

Had to do it....

http://www.poopreport.com/BMnewswire/972.html

Shave 9oz right off by warming the ring and blessing the pile smile...

Pard dropped his knife in the hole while making a deposit. Took out a hundred dollar bill and threw it in there too. I just about dropped. "What the hell did you do that for??!!" He responded "There is no way in hell I am putting my arm down there for a pocket knife!" smile

My Montucky 257 Bob weighs right at 6 lbs on the nose, with talley lightweight lows and a FXII 6x36 LR scope.

My faux Montucky 7-08 weighs 6 lbs 2 oz with talley steel bases/rings and a FXIII 6x42 atop.

What's a few ounces???
