I want to purchase a nice custom hunting knife, but I am totally ignorant when it comes to knives. I know nothing about the type of steel, handles, etc. Can you guys suggest a few of the best knife makers. I will be using the knife for skinning/cleaning deer only. Art Summers Model 32 is the size or type I am looking for, and I really like the damascus steel. I could not find Art Summers and a few others web site. Any help or contacts is greatly appreciated.
I think you would be well served by most any of the makers that are highlighted on this forum. That said, David and Jason Winston both have websites, and they both have knives available. They use D2 steel...it's good stuff. But they can make Damascus blades too. You sure get a lot for your money when you get a knife from either of them.
You can look here http://www.blademag.com/profile/ArtSummers And under my picture of the raven where it says "photos(110)" click on the word Photos and it will bring up all the pictures. Right now I'm swamped with orders and can't get to you till next summer so I'd look at some of the makers on this forum and Mike Miller makes some fine knives Thanks, Art Summers
PS: and the other makers are welcome to copy my Model #32 if that is what you want .
Ha ha ha, the " Knife Bug ". no joke! My Ingrams haven't been delivered yet, still on their way and I already put a Damascus Hunter in motion with Karl Andersen. Ya, it can get bad!

Thanks for all the input from everyone. Knife from Mike Miller is on the way. The gun, bow, and just plain hunting bug has been bad enough. I can only imagine what this knife bug will lead to. Just another thing to hide from the wife.
I don't understand the sttel/blade material. The knife I bought is 1084. Is that good? What is the best?
1084 is a tough carbon steel.Takes a good edge, holds it good. It'll need a little care,'cause it is less corrosion resistant than some other steels. Keep it dry & oiled w/ not in use.
All different cutlery steels have different properties
But for good blade geometry, resulting in a good cutting blade, the grind & heat treatment will be more important ,as long as a decent steel is used. The Miller knife you have incoming will be ground thin & properly heat treated.A great cutter! Congrat's
Website : New website coming soon thanks for your patience
nice blade HOBO! i am getting excited as well. Mike is making me my first ordered custom as well. i have made a couple myself, but i dont believe they are anywhere near the quality that Mike produces. i will post pics when it arrives later this year.
