Years ago, I had an old 66, 3/4 ton Dodge modified with a Detroit Locker. Never, and I mean never, had any trouble on wet or icy streets with it. You just learn to work a smooth gas pedal, and it worked fine. Off road, I could drive sand flats and sand washes as long as I didn't make any sharp turns. I put over a 100,000 miles on this old truck with that locker in it.
In no way do they compare to any limited slip performance wise. E

+1! I've had mine now for a couple of months. Most capable off-road truck from the factory I've ever seen. Front and rear electronic lock differentials, electronic disconnecting sway bar, 2" lift, 12k pound warn winch, heavy duty tranny cooler, 33" BFG A/T's, 3/4 ton tow rating, etc. All of this for 13.6mpg. smile

My '07 Ram 1500 4x4 has a limited slip differential in the rear (anti spin as Dodge calls it) as does my '78 Camaro(Yukon Dura Grip). They both work great, I love them.

I'm amazed on how well my Ram is in the snow and mud once I put good tires on it. I sold the factory 275/60-20's Goodyear Wrangler HP tires. They were the worse tires I've ever had on a 4x4 or SUV. I put 265/70-17 Mastercraft Courser A/T2's on it. . . . .WAY BETTER! I might go with the Courser CT's next.

My son (10) and I were hunting this past weekend and it started raining. Instead of going home, we went off roading. We went places I never would have thought we could have gone. We had a blast.

A good friend of mine put a Lock Right in his open diff. '93 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4 back in 1995. 200K miles later it's still working great.

Having 3 wheels getting power makes a huge difference over the usual one in the front and one in the rear. I won't own a truck (or old car) without a LSD of some sort.

Both my truck and Camaro well fish tail a little under acceleration on wet pavement. Once you get used to it, it's no big deal.

NYH1! wink

The G80 in the newer GM trucks is made by Eaton and is a locking differential. It won't initially lock if you're doing more than 20mph,but once locked, will stay locked way past 20mph.

I know it's not full-sized, but my Tacoma ext. cab 4x4 with the TRD off-road package has a locking rear diff. I don't think it's offered in the quad cab.

It's offered in the Quad Cab. But not in the Tundra. E
