Just need a estimate on the speed I'm getting on a 6.5x55 load I'm using. It's 47.5 grains of RL22 under a Horn 129 SP. Tis the day before buck season here in WVa and the local rifle range is a total looney bin, so I didn't get to crono it. It's out of a Rem 700 ADL with a 22 inch barrel. Thanks if one of you 6.5 guys can give me a good guess?

At an OAL of 3.150", QuickLoad forecasts 2647 fps.

With a 140 grain bullet, I get 2824 FPS in a 29" barrel.

So back out about 225 FPS for a 7" difference in barrel length, and bump it up 100 FPS for an extra grain of powder and a lighter bullet.

Sounds like you might be in the 2700 FPS region, give or take.

I have a sporter Model 38 Swedish Mauser so I stay with the 140gr bullets, as it likes the heavy bullets. That said I would estimate about 25-2600 fps. That sould put them on the ground!

I had trouble getting good groups out of my Model 700 in 6.5x55. A gunsmith friend re-chambered it for the 6.5x284 and the Remington is now accurate AND a long range rifle. The Remington is my "power line" rifle.

If my stand is 300yards or less I go with the Mauser 38, if the shot might be longer I go with the Remington 700 in 6.5x284.

Does it hit where you're aiming? If it does, then it sounds like a dead deer. You're running the bullet fast enough to kill anything, don't worry about it! smile
