I just replaced my Mr. Coffee with a 10 cup Cuisinart with insulated carafe that I am happy with so far. The coffee is definitely hotter and tastes pretty dang good.

Bunn, and another thing I like is the fact that you can make a pot after the electric goes off, which happens often here. As soon as it goes off, we pour cold water in and make one pot while calling the electric co. Put that in a thermos and drink coffee while waiting. I guess we could heat water on the gas stove and pour it through without any electric, but have never tried that. grin miles

These: http://www.technivorm.com/pages/products-home.html

..........are outstanding.. However, a programmable option is not available.. There are a few models listed with 2-hr auto-shutoff. The main thing about coffeemakers to look for is the proper brew temp - and these have it right..

We've used the CD-10 model for several years now and it's been a workhorse..

I don't think they make them anymore, but if you can find a Faberware Superfast peculator they are great. Perc coffee tastes better to me than drip. When you have the time, stove top is the best.

Revere Ware WAS made in Clinton Illinois. NOW Revere Ware is made over seas. I do believe Taiwan or India. In the mid 90's the Clinton Plant closed. 500 people were put out of jobs. The last AMERICAN MADE stainless steel/copper bottom pans left the country. The quality is not the same. I ashamed to say the last few years the plant was open, Corning Revere Ware made the quality slide down fast.

Do that and you have a French Press without the press!

I'm easy. Any brand drip filter with Maxwell House is fine with me.

For sure. I've tried them all and the French Press is by far the best, least expensive, and brews the best cup.

I've had some good ones, but the best would have to be Rebecca.

When I am home we use the Bunn. Coffee in the morning and brew Ice Tea latter in the day. If we need a cup or two of hot water for anything, we just pour water through the Bunn. Very convienent.

When I am working away from home, my wife uses her Kruig. She just has one cup of coffee a day and I have it programmed to heat up for her in the morning, then shut off.

I have had one of these for a long time, going on 10 yrs. maybe?

Capresso 550

Ours is an older model that was made in Portugal. When I bought it my in-laws commented on how expensive it was. Since then they have burned through 3 or 4 less expensive coffee makers. It makes great coffee and we like the thermal carafe.

I also use a French Press when I don't want to make a full pot.

French press... think I paid $12.00 for mine. Fresh ground beans ground in a cheap coffee grinder = great coffee.

Thermal carafe with water heated in the maker only is my preference for good tasting coffee. Anything with a glass carafe and a hotplate and you might as well make cowboy coffee in a firepit percolator. I also prefer cone filters, as they waste less coffee than the basket filters.
Commerical Bunn makers are nasty, and should be labeled "Burn" rather than "Bunn". They heat the coffee water too hot, so it leaches out more of the bitter oils in coffee (that's also the extra harshness you taste in a French press if the water is too hot), and then they scald the coffee on those hotplates till it tastes like ashes. They're good for making a lot of coffee quickly and poorly.

Same in my house. My wife doesn't care what the coffee tastes like. She just doesn't want to work for it.

If there is an easier, mainteance free process for making coffee, I'm all ears.
