I tried Sam Adams Octoberfest this year and loved it... unfortunately Ive about depleted my large stash of it. My question is... and I know theres some serious beer lovers on here... is what else is out there that tastes similar to that brew? Anything? Thanks in advance.. theres bound to be something close.

Sam Adams Octoberfest is truely a great beer! Sam's Club sells it by the case, and cheap. I buy multiple cases so I am still drinking it come early summer, long after it is gone from the stores.

I am not sure any national brew is similiar, need to check into local microbrews. Lots of microbrews make Octoberfests or amber ales with extra malt.

If you want the real thing, get some Paulaner Oktoberfest. Just be sure it's fresh, buy from a store where there is good turnover.

I doubt it's going to be the beer for someone wanting Oktoberfest.

This is a slam dunk -- Leinenkugel Classic Amber or, if you're lucky, Fireside Nut Brown. Top of the heap.

Skip the Leinenkugals...easily the most over rated beer brand out there. Everything they make is drinkable, but none of it is special in any way.

I haven't tried them all, but that describes the ones I've tried.

I guess Ive led a sheltered life with brands of beer. Stuck to the mainstream stuff and have started branching out and trying different stuff. I guess I have passed through the consume mass quantity stage into the enjoying the taste of actual good beer now. Im guessing the mass quantity stage comes back when I find the right good one.

Of the Sam Adams stuff, Boston Ale is easily their best brew IMO.

Leinenkugels all taste like Leinenkugels. No matter what flavor it says on the label, you can tell it is a Leinie.......

I don't buy Samuel Adams beer for two reasons
1) I don't like Jim Koch, and yes I've met him face to face.

2) He brags about buying Saigon Ginger, I don't know if it was actually grown in Vietnam or not but the name is close enough for me.

There is no substitution for Sam Adams Oktoberfest...it's one of a kind. If you ever find Sierra Nevada Harvest Ale on draft, don't skip that little gem either. It's fantastic, but also seasonal.

I don't think there is a good substitute for SAO, which is why I start an IV drip of the stuff from September through October.

If we avoid products from every place we've ever engaged in hostilites with we'd be hosed. Our second largest souce of oil is a nation we fought a war with, and technically lost to. They even burned our capital. We've done battle with Canada, Mexico, Britain, Spain, Germany, Japan, Italy and spilt our boy's blood in countless other places. Seems kind of odd to worry about boycotting products over something long over with, but that's just me.

Shiner makes an outstanding "Holiday Cheer" this time of year. It has got a little pecan and peach flavors in it.

Labatt's Marzen is an Ocktoberfest type of beer that I have found quite drinkable.
