I have the itch for a sporter weight 17 HMR. What's your advice?
I have a 17HMR Savage Mako Shark that is heavy, a 17 mach2 CZ 452 varmit that is heavy and a Ruger 10/22 that is heavy. The CZs seem nice. 452 or 455? Ruger 77/17 has a nice magazine and the T Bolt sounds good too.
My budget is $600 ish with out optics.
Opinions?

I have owned three of the Volquartsen .17 HMR's.
They make them in Carroll, IA.
They are wonderfully accurate, don't hiccup, and can be gotten with a carbon fiber bbl that doesn't weigh jack.
The only problem I see is they go for twice your budget.....
Can win it all.

Fletcher1856: You touched on one of the main reasons I would go for one of the Ruger 77/17 models - the magazine! It is simply perfection - and of relatively high capacity. I would recommend the Ruger 77/17. Best of luck to you which ever you choose. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

I think the Ruger is the classiest of the bunch and feels the most like a full size hunting rifle.

I've been very pleased with the 77/17.

Hold into the wind VarmintGuy although I prefer the CZ 452 over the Ruger, VG brings up a good point on magazine capacity... I don't like the CZ's 5 round mag, but I like the Ruger's higher capacity... if you are looking at a walking varminter for field work, the Shooter's Ridge Double Stack Magazine has a capacity of 20 rounds... I have two when I go afield... one in the rifle and one in the pocket... they are well made and are under $20.00 need to consider picking up a few more...
