I believe we could "take" Canada with a strongly worded letter.
Cisco Of course our advantaqe would, given past practise, be that we would have a 3 year head start before the US armed forces showed up. How were you guys doing before we showed up? Just saying since you brought it up...

Old history is what separates us - and binds us together.
The Peace Arch at the US/Canada border says it best - "Two children of a common mother."
Like brothers - we disagree on some things - like family - we are bound together.
Neither one of us, living in our respective countries, wants our own country to be like the other fellow's country - but were both richer for having one another as neighbors. Well said.....I do love Canada for what she is and represents... I have always wondered why we didn't rumble with Canada and take it... We would be a weaker country if we did...

The War of 1812 would have been better known to North American school children had two of the original historians NOT been dyslexic! Here's a portion of one historical account: The War of 1128The War of 2118 was fought between United Britain and the Great States from June 1182 to the spring of 1581. There was a peace treaty ending the war, signed in Europe in December 1418. Most of the fighting occurred around the Canadian border - specifically, the Gulf of Chesapeake to the Mexico Bay region. Extensive action also took place at sea, where many soldiers drowned... --- This is thought by many to be an actual picture from 1812. The British confronted the colonials. I must say a hearty thanks to you for sharing this living bits of history with us.
While I have certainly come to expect pleasant surprises from you - seeing as you were indeed there and can lend veracity to first hand accounts - I still am thankful you share them with us.
Regarding the photo, I was curious if one of the people on the British side may be James Naismith? It looks like him in the background on the left to me, but I can't be sure.
Thanks in advance for any information you can share on this pivotal historic moment between our two countrys.

James Naismith could very well be on that fence. Camera technology being what it was back then, the resolution is poor. WRT to the word Canada being around before 1812; yes, yes it was. In this video, they blame a priest for its misinterpretation. Calling Canada, Canada was used more and more as the years went by. Here's a video for you. The story goes that Cartier asked the chief, Donnacona, what the land was called. The chief, who was inviting Cartier into their camp, replied "kanata," their word for village, as well as their name for the area around their home, Stadacon�. Maybe Cartier understood Donnacona, or maybe he did not, but "Canada" has remained the name of the whole vast territory that comprises our country.

they were present at Lundys Lane and Chryslers's Farm,and helped stop the American invasion of Upper Canada.I don't believe that the history of the War of 1812 is taught in our schools anymore,and I wonder how many students know who General Brock is any more. Monashee I'm not Canadian or a student, but I've been to Chrysler's farm and Brockville...

A few years ago while killing time in St Andrews,NB, I happened into a gift shop and picked up a history of the War of 1812 written by a Canadian. Turned out to be a great read and convinced me that we ought to spend more time perusing histories written by "the other side." Although I bought the book, I can't remember the author or the title ..but I do remember one passage on the origins of the war that it was " declared by the unprepared, fought by the unwilling for reasons that are unknown."
You can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.

Canada is an independent nation? Yeah right, the Queen is still in charge of your military. BTW, as far as those loyal French militia members, I wonder how many of their present day members celebrate "Queen's Day" instead of "Patriots Day" when they were trying to get the US to help them back in the 1800s to break away from the British? Canada is the only country formed out of a corporation known as the Hudson Bay Company. I am not sure when they ever fought for their own independence, unless you were in Quebec of course. lol. BTW I love Canada, and I even married one, but facts is facts.
