My wife (Juliana) needs some friends but isn't into most of the "girly" type stuff. Are there any women here who are into shooting, hunting, fishing and stuff like that who wouldn't mind having another friend? She'd love to learn how to shoot a shotgun and to have someone to improve her pistol shooting technique with or just talk about stuff like that. You could reply to this thread or email at knifemaker@earthlink.net Thanks, Josh
It was too hard on the family to have me away so much so since the birth of our son Peter (June 3rd) i have been driving lumber truck for SBS here in Eagle River.
If you all get to Ketchikan, look us up. My wife likes to hunt and fish, and her idea of girly stuff is canning green beans. Well, OK, quilting and sewing hits the top of her list, but I view that as "woman" stuff, not "girly" stuff.
Some of Faith's friends have a hard time understanding why she likes skinning game so much... .
"The more you run over a dead cat, the flatter it gets."
"If you're asking me something technical, you may be looking for My Other Brother Darrell."
"It ain't foot-pounds that kills stuff -- it's broken body parts."
Sounds like she is sort of in the same boat that I am, athough I am new to all of this!
It is hard enough to get our gender out in the woods....toss in the idea of shooting a gun/hunting and most look at you like you have lost your mind.
If she ever finds herself in WA...tell her I'll go out shooting with her !! Hopefully she likes dogs !

Hi! I'm Juliana. I'd be really glad to get to know you both more. I'm pretty new at some of this too, I came from a family who didn't like guns but I've been a tomboy all my life. I got to know more about guns and how fun they are when I met my husband a few years ago. We did quite a bit of 22 shooting on our honeymoon out in the country. We were staying in this place that was up on a bank above a river. We would throw pieces of wood and sticks into the river then shoot them until they got to far away. I particularly like shooting the 39TDS, it is a fast accurate little gun. I have a 30-06 Ruger M77 that I hope to use for hunting. I've also gotten to shoot our AR15 and at the range I've gotten to use someones silenced M-4 and an MP5. I'd be glad to hear what guns you all have and what sort of things you find most interesting. It is nice to know I'm not the only gal out there that likes life to be interesting! Juliana
Juliana- There is a program called Becoming an Outdoors Woman (BOW) that is sponsored by F&G, NRA, AOC just to name a few. My wife did the program IIRC in Feb this year. They have a huge assortment of mini classes including game skinning, XC skiing, shooting, fly fishing, building a pulk (sled) and using it to haul gear on an overnight trip (women only) and so much more. My wife thoroughly enjoyed the weekend, made new friends, and didn't have me teaching her Let me know if you are interested, and I'll dig up the contact info for you.

I am a past participant in the Texas Becoming an Outdoor Woman program and also a past instructor; it is a wonderful program for woman who want to learn to camp, shoot shotguns, muzzeloaders, pistols, archers, as well as camping, outdoor cooking, fishing, etc. You can go to the Texas website to get links tpwd.state.tx.us
My wife took the BOW a few years ago and had a blast, it's a great program. She enjoys shooting and fishing, but for her it just isn't the most important thing in her life.
Julianna, I think you've met my wife, if not, I know we have mutual friends. Maybe you guys can hook up some day. She's set with rod's and guns. Oh yeah, I just made her a bow last week, but I haven't gotten around to fletching the arrows.
Looks like they had a session last weekend . You should be abls to get the schedule and other info from the site above. Sign up as early as you can as it fills up fast here, and most other locations as well I suspect.
Good luck!

My wife isn't really into a lot of girly stuff either. Unfortunately she also isn't much into putting herself out on a forum such as this either. She has basically been "agin" the gun thing though she does accept the fact that I am just the opposite. My buying her her own little 257 Roberts did change that though and she does truly enjoy hunting to the point of being competitive enough that she is still steamed about the last caribou hunt last spring when she got skunked. She vows to do the same someday to the two seasoned hunters and men that she went out with - and she probably will. The only support I can give you is this - you might think of the title as something like, "If a Man Can Do It........"
