You have worked for the state for what, a year? And you have 7 weeks of vacation LEFT? Holy cow, I am in the wrong business!

Thinkin bout taking friday off. Me too. I only have 7 weeks of vacation left though, I don't want to use it all up. No crap...7 weeks! Wow I work in the wrong department for the State. Been here almost 6 years, surely haven't acquired that much of vacation and probably won't even if I stay here for another 100 years.

We aren't even allowed to accumulate 7 weeks, I've lost that much vacation many times over.
TZ - get out there!

I just got word from my dad about the guy who owns the house I stay at when I hunt on the iron range. His son came over to check on him because nobody had heard from him all day. He found him laying unconscious in the driveway and called 911.
Nobody knew how long he'd been there. It appears he slipped on the ice and konked his head. He also has 4 busted ribs, a very bruised hip, a kidney infection from laying there an not going to the bathroom so he must have been there a loooong time, and now has pneumonia.
My dad went to see him today in the hospital in Duluth, which is where they took him after the short stint in Virginia hospital.
He is a grumpy old dude, but we're are about his only friends, so it meant a lot to him for my dad to go see him. I'll probably do so on Sat or Sunday too.

Call them. They won't know who I am. I'm on a double top seceret team. BrentD, we can carry up to 1000 hours, but who in the heck can accumulate that much? Not me... I use it up in the summer for family stuff and the fall for hunting. When they told me we could carry that much, I just chuckled. Really, why would you want to carry that much.

at a thousand hours you could almost take a half a year of vacation and then retire.......

Thanks Dave. It sounds like there was a bunch of stuff the saw bones in Virgina missed that was discovered when he got to Duluth. Like the blood and pa-moania in his lungs. Looks like he gets to come home in a day or two.

Good wishes for your old friend Tom...hopefully he prospers.
I found out today that one of our hunting camp members who is a 3rd cousin or so died this morning. Last Sunday I saw him at his cabin making fresh french fries and fried chicken...and he killed a nice 6 pt last Monday on my place. This morn he had a massive heart attack. He was 38. Sometimes I think there is a bounty out on us...we lost his grandpa in October...and Chris was left his cabin. Now he is gone. Some day I'll figure all this out......
We eat organic in our house, we just have to shoot and gut it first.....

Tzone, pass on well wishes to your friend from another geezer. SSB,sorry to hear about such a relatively young person dying.
I knew a guy in Atlanta who saved up enough vacation over the time span of his job career that he drew his salary for a year when he retired. The company had a plan to put unused vacation toward retirement.

Tzone, in the end, there is really no vacation. No one does my work when I'm gone, so vacation is sort of a gimmick as far as I'm concerned. I've probably lost several thousands of hours so far. but when I retire, I'll get paid for up to 400 hrs of it. That's all. Part of the business I guess.

You hit the nail right on the head about vacations Brendt. You could usually plan on 3 days of catch up for every week you took off.

I doubt I'll ever have enough built up to loose hours. I do loose floating holidays if I don't use them. Which won't happen this year.
Bill is a tough old guy, he'll be fine I think. He's a retired iron worker, you don't get much tougher than those guys.
