I've owned Weatherbys, old Winchester Model 70's, Remingtons, and TC's. Have not owned Sakos, Savages, Kimber, or Montana Rifle Co . guns. If you had $1000 to spend for a current production rifle, what brand and model would you buy to get the best 'bang' for your buck.
What if you had $2000 to spend?
To make it simpler, let's assume a 30 caliber standard or magnum cartridge.

Respectable choices - now please tell me why you would choose these over others? I haven't bought a rifle in several years. Most of the major manufacturers are changing triggers, barrel quality, stocks, etc. The goal is (as always) solid shooting iron with itty bitty groups at the other end of the range. Also, which models?

what brand and model would you buy to get the best 'bang' for your buck. This one in .300 Win mag. You can load it up or down. Ammo is avialable anywhere if you don't load your own. Shop around & you might even be able to put a Leupold scope on it & still keep it under $1000. For the $2000 range the same thing. Use the extra money for a hunt. Ruger Hawkeye If you hadn't said a .30 cal I would of said the Ruger Hawkeye African in .375 Ruger. I like throwing big chunks of lead.

Winchester Model 70 EW SS in 30-06 or 300 WSM
(My son has the 300 WSM and I really like that rifle!)
Ruger Hawkeye Sporter in Stainless with laminate stock. 30-06 & 300 WSM if they chambered it.
(My son has a MKII in 6mm and that's a great rifle. We put a Boyds nutmeg laminate on it.)

Sako A7 in 300 WSM
light, accurate, secure but detachable mag, excellent adjustable trigger, etc...
Throw it in an EDGE and you're done shopping for rifles.

In the range of multiple thousands of $ I may be able to rationalize buying a Dakota 76. Otherwise I'd watch for a deal on something special to catch my eye or build a custom..

Yep. And if you look around you can find very used Sako's with very little wear on them for at lot less than $2K.

I'd take the entire $3000, add a bit more & get 2 Coopers.
IF I HAD to use $1000 or thereabouts, it would be a Win. Mod. 70. Very possibly an Extreme Weather.
Then, the second rifle with $2000 left over, would still be a Cooper.
Sure wouldn't piss any money away on a Kimber but that's just me.

Awesome shooting and congratulations on a great rifle. Thank you. It is a shooter!!! This ten shot group measures .416" with the called flyer and without the called flyer, the 9 shoot group measures .216". Nice. That's a good price for a custom-triggered, match-barreled rifle, sub-MOA, ready to go, and less $ than a new Sako 85. Could do w/ a few more chambering options and I would add backup sights. 7-1/2 lbs isn't bad. Oh, and made in US.
Nosler's chart showed the metal as "magnesium"--I hope that is just the name of the Cerakote, and that there are no parts made of that metal.
