Finally got a few less windy moments at the range on Saturday and saw what the Varmint can do. Five shots at 50 yards fired at a Berchwood Casey 1" orange dot from a concrete bench supporting my Caldwell Rock BR rest and rear bag:

That big scope is a BSA Platinum 36X44. It is a low end scope but it has always worked well for testing ammo on my various rimfires at the range.

Nice rifle.

Do you think the scope is kind of big for 50 yards? wink

Congrats Sheffield for a great shooter and looks like you did well in the wood lottery too.

Thanks for the kind remarks folks. I can't wait to get some real time with this rifle and several different types of ammo. That group was fired with some Wolf MT that the seller threw in with the deal (he said the Wolf had to be at least five years old).

Mine likes SK standard plus that is about the same if not the same as Wolf match target.

Mine takes about 20 rnds from a clean bbl and then she really settles in.

I've had a CZ special now for almost three years, and it never ceases to amaze me with it's accuracy! I restocked it and put it in a Boyd's thumbhole, pillar bedded it and installed a adjustable sear to get the creep out(it had about 3/16ths" creep!). With SK std+ it will do .2 to .3" groups consistently!
you got a nice rig there! Good find!

We have one local match in which the shooters have to engage five little steel chickens at 80 yards with a bi-podded rifle. The shooter has one minute to go from standing to prone and with no more than ten rounds, try to take out as many of the chickens as possible. His/her score is the number of birds left standing and the low score wins. One shoots this regimen three times during the match for an aggregate score. Tied shooters have a shoot off with only five rounds allowed.

I think this rifle may be effective in that match with different glass. I have a Weaver Grand Slam 6-20X40 with a dot reticle that I'm considering mounting on this Varmint model.
