I'm rarely comfortable going out on the ice before Christams. It was a good rule of thumb in WI where I used to fish because most everything was a flowage. It's a decent rule to follow here too. No reason to die for a fish.
A guy doesn't need to be out on LOW on first ice because there's always fish, so it's not a major concern.

10* above here. Supposed to be up in the 30's by monday. I need 2 feet of ice befor I feel safe. Quite a few of the lakes around here have springs in them so there's either open water or very thin ice around the spring areas.

Got a call from my buddy that is headed to Dubay at 2pm. He's crazy! I would not be at all comfortable out there now.

Mom and dad headed to camp this morning. I wish I could make it but it don't look like I will.
I am out of order until further notice. My "stupid people" filter needs cleaning and my "give a damn" batteries have run out.

Seems it was the right thing to have. Me and Ma had a Tom and Jerry last night and it hit the spot.

We went to a "ugly sweater" party last night. whew, it was fun, but I must be getting old! That time of year I guess.
I wonder how the 'buckaroos are doing today? Here's hoping a fuzzy windchime comes strolling along....closer to ND....closer yet. Almost in the open....there it is...in the clear...KERBOOOOOOOM! And the deer bounds away unscathed after a clean miss! Hehehehe!
Talking snow here mid week.

None deer sightings. We had fun last night anyways though.
Quite a swing in temp, sub zero yesterday and it must be close to 20 today, nice squirrel watching weather. Which is what I'm doing now. This aint a deer stand, it's a squirrel stand! Angry chattery squirrels.

Any other places you can go where deer are being seen? I brought ND out to help cull my heard one day during rifle season but it was the only day I sat all season without seeing a deer. I'm starting to think he needs to back off on the hunting a bit & maybe work on some hygiene. HA HA HA HA!!! Just givin you a hard time ND! Any new projects in the works there Dave?????? I know nothing yet...

I think it's because he threw a pair of his crusty's on the wood spirits head....
Dave is doomed forever.
Sad thing is I would like to invite Dave out here to Indiana for a crack at one of our bucks but I don't want to be cursed like he obviously is.
And I do feel sorry for a guy putting time in and not getting results.
Sorry Dave.

I have to give ND credit for having a lot of heart for the venison gettin. I don't think many could have stuck it out like he has. The camp is second to none tho & that is what keeps everyone coming back. The cycle of the deer will change in time & many fruitfull hunts will come. I think we should work on harvesting some tamrack this season & I'm more than happy to share my good fortune of the venison season with his family. I really think ND needs a Christmas present to ease the pain of this fall. hint hint..... It starts with a "T" click click click..... I'd be out there with the guys drowning our sorrows & telling some great lies this evening but I have some other obligations at the momment. Nothin like some smart joose to liven up the evening!

Dave, as many of us...has the heart of a hunter. Us boys in MN are goofy breed of hunter. We only get a few weeks a year to chase windchime material and it isn't to be spent at home. I didn't lay eyes on a deer in the woods. I love the shooting of the deer, the gutting, the dragging, the story telling. But that isn't all there is to the hunt. I know that, You know that WB, I'm just stating it. The camp is second to none tho & that is what keeps everyone coming back. The cycle of the deer will change in time & many fruitfull hunts will come. da camp is what it's about. I love that camp. I could not leave its walls and call it a successful hunt. There is NO WHERE on earth I sleep as good as I do at that camp. Hopefully, 10 years from now, we'll be talking about how there were no deer around, but now we're over run with them. I remember it being like that on the iron range in the 90's when I first started to hunt. 1-2 deer maybe seen a year. I didn't shoot one until I was 14.
