Just picked up new M70 Super Grade in 300 WSM and am looking for useful loads for 165 & 180 gr. bullets using H4350, R19, R22 or H4831. I have these powders on hand and will only try other powders if I can't find good loads with one of these powders.

Any of those will work, just check out the respective powder or bullet makers websites. However, W780 is the powder specifically designed for the WSMs. Burn rate is between 4350 and 4831 but unlike either of them it will work through a measure +-1/10 gr. Magnum primers required.

I'm loading 64 gr. of RE19 and 180 gr. Nosler SolidBases. Its a pretty mild load but shoots well. My winter project is to try some 180 BT's and h4350, so we will see how that goes.
If I remember right I was running, 64 gr. of IMR4350 and 165's a few years back. Once again, not a screamer by any means but it shot well. Hope this helps.

After I read this post I went on the winchester web site and read how they describe this powder. They didnt mention the winchester short mags in thier description. Were did you learn that this powder was designed for the short mags?

Thank you every one for all the suggestions. As soon as I get my hands on some brass will start to try them out. I didn't really need this gun but it was so pretty and well finished I got one of those urges to try it. Will try to remember to report back if I find something that works really well for me. Given the changing weather this may take a while.

W780 was described in Handloader as designed for the WSMs. Makes perfect sense as it is denser than stick powders of the same burn rate and less erosive as well.

Here's couple of reviews from Midway:

I have used this powder in my Tikka 300 WSM with 155gr, 168gr, and 175gr bullets. I can shoot .5 MOA 5 shot groups with all three bullets. I have used RL-19, RL-22, IMR 4350, IMR 4831. I liked IMR 4831 in the past but it seems that any quality bullet I put on top of this powder will shoot with a little effort in the load development area. I have also used this in the .270 Win with the 130gr Nosler ballistic tip.

This was the most accurate powder I found for my 270 WSM with 130gr. Nosler BT's and AccuBonds. My Browning A Bolt really liked them. I would recommend to anyone looking for a slower burning powder. Very easy to work with also."

I had a 270 WSM (briefly) and pulled some of the factory supreme ammo .... W780

Have also used it in 300 Win Mag and 300 H&H with fine results. Won't do anything other powders will not EXCEPT meters through a measure wonderfully, like W748, W760 and H869.

Hope that answers your question.

Yeah, but how temp sensitive is it???? The main reason I use H4350 is because it is and "extreme" powder which is hardly effected by varriations in temps....

None of the WRA/Hodgdon "ball" powders have any temp problems IF you use magnum primers. Shot em at 100 above to 40 below.... bang, flop.

Now do you really think a major ammo company would make ammo that had not passed every conceivable test ? "Extreme" is like "Tactical", a far overused word with little if any published data to support it. Now we have "Superpreformance", yawn!

One wonders how the G.I.s won in WWII and Korea shooting M-1s stoked with 4895 ?
