Who makes a good .22 lever? This will probably be a used one in good condition when I finally buy it. All things being equal, lighter is better as it is for a lady.

there is a dandy marlin TDS in the classifieds......or you could do a browning or henry as they might be a little lighter.

I have a BL22 - seems to be a good rig and hits what I point it at. No drama as it feeds and ejects everything put thru it. LOP is pretty short but I like it anyway.

The TDS in the classifieds is very tempting, too....

I've had a winchester 9410 since 1973. My favorite 22 lever action. I've had the browning. It has too short of a stroke. The Winchester gives you the feeling you're handling a model 92! Find one second hand and buy it! smile

Hard to beat a Marlin 39. Mine is from 1953 and it is an extremely fine rifle for sure.

The odds of finding a used "good" .22 levergun in excelent condition are long, since most folks tend to keep the good ones.

Two new Henry Standard H001's can be bought for the going price of one used long bbl (24") Marlin 39a, nevermind a more desireous/costlier shorty like the TDS or a Mountie.

The Henry carries a lifetime warranty, & excellent customer service.
My adult daughter just flat loves the one I gave her this Fall.

I disagree Rangr. But you will pay for a good used 39. They are pretty abundant, but not cheap because they are known to be excellent and there is a strong demand for them.

True, Henrys are cheaper, but I've yet to see one hang with a 39. I've only seen two but I was not impressed in anyway, so maybe they were poor examples.

Any 39 will hold its value. Maybe better than almost any other .22. At the very least, they are worth strong consideration.

I own my Uncle's 1927 Model 39. Octagon barreled, it was one of those I cut my teeth on. Still shoots like it ever did..fantastic.
I've never heard of a Winchester 9410 .22 ??? Or Model 92 anything in Winchester. I know they made a 9410 lever action shotgun at one time.
Incidentally, there is a nice 9422 Magnum for sale at RimFireCetral.com. I believe he's asking $450+$45 dollars shipping.

+1. The Browning lever is very hard to beat. All steel and still affordable.

I bought a Henry this summer, an affordably lever action. I think it was less than $275. Seems to shoot and function great. I don't have any complaints.

We went back to ND this summer and I took my 10-22 with for the kids to shoot gophers (as we call them). I put a Butler Creek bull barrel and a Hogue stock on it years ago. Well after this years troubles with the gun, I am going to put the factory barrel and stock back on. It jammed all the time or failed to extract. That I think is account of the match chamber. Now it shoots really great but is unreliably. Another complaint I had was loading the mags for it, the kids always kept them empty and my thumb got soar. It was so much easier to load the tube.

Winchester 9422's are hard to beat. I'd let her handle several different rifles and let her decide which one.

I hope this doesn't evoke a flaming contest, but if you want a "traditional" rifle for your lady you might consider a small light pump. I bought a little el cheapo Taurus pump a few years ago for my grandkids and it came with both a youth and an adult stock. 22lr-only, but that's all most of us shoot anyway.

The 39A, to me, is the gold standard of .22 leverguns, but its built for a full sized man - unless you get one of the cut-down models that are ridiculously expensive.

Just an alternative suggestion.

I took a Henry .22 on a trade a few years ago.
It has been one of the best .22 levers I've ever owned.
It shoots several different rounds very well.

9422 all the way. I hear nothing but good stuff about Henrys, but I want a traditionally styled lever action to be made of traditional materials like steel and walnut. My problem, I guess. I just can't get over the painted Zamac metal receiver on the Henry. Again, my problem. At least it won't rust. They do seem to have pretty good looking walnut in their stocks.

I have a very early Winchester 94-22, it has the silver magazine tube, all the others i have seen are brass colored, its a fine little shooter, has been very accurate, [irons] and dependable for years.

Guess i just like the older 22's better.

Marlin '39 has the EZ take-down feature (1 screw).

BL-22 nice short stroke - easy for one handed cocking, good for smaller folks and those not use to the full stroke levers.

Marlin great for investment, longevity, reliability and if you ever have to take it down.

Winchester lot of snob appeal but don't even think about taking it down - putting it back together correctly is not for the faint hearted!

Henry's will do - smaller investment, especially good if the shooter is likely to move on to something bigger soon and/or loose interest.

Only lever in 22 I have is an early Win. 9422M. It is a very accurate 22 mag, great late season squirrel rifle. They probably a little pricey on the used market as have been discontinued for a few years, but if one can find one at a resonable price buy it.
