That's interesting. I think Ruger did a run of their Compact Magnum rifles, ie. 20" barrel with open sights, and chambered them in .308. I had the can't helpits for one of them for a short while, but talked myself out of it.
Lots of folks aren't fans of the Savage bolt guns. I wasn't for a long time. I have one now that I won't part with. For a truck gun they make alot of sense.

It doesn't look that bad...for a Savage. I don't like the threaded barrel but we will see after I see one in person.

Whatever a 7x57 can do a 270 can do better.

I'd rather have the Savage Patrol Carbine .308

Interesting. I also like the Alaskan Brush Hunter. Similar, but 18" stainless and offered in 338 WM or 375 Ruger.

That's hot! I am finding myself getting excited and needing a new rifle! I too would go with the Patrol in .308.
"it says so on the box!!!"
That is funny, but marketing works!
Good Shooting!

What is it that makes it a better hog rifle? i guess that its less than $450 and not avail in WSM's. you would have to remove the iron sights and add a 24" barrel then chamber it in 270WSM for it to be a "deer rifle".

I think if you lopped off the threaded portion, remove the rear buckhorn, and add a XS Ghost ring it would be quiet a handy little rifle.

I have two more better hog rifles. A scoped Win Mod 100 auto in .308, and an open sighted Rem Mod 81 Woodsmaster auto in .300 Sav. Real piggy rifles.
Lever/pump guns would be my second choice.

Yeah it won't be "quiet" with the threads lopped off but it would be "quite" handy. I should proof my posts better instead of just using a spell checker, but it was real early for me this morning and hadnt had a full cup of coffee yet. If I was going to use a can for a "quiet" rifle, I'd have it rebarreled into a .300 Whisper or .300 AAC Blackout. 175-220 grain subsonic bullets with a can and night vision would turn it into a true pig thumper with more multiple kills possible. .308 WCF the only chambering on this one?
No they make it in .223 Rem and .338 Win as well . I think they could have used a better stock than that Stevens 200 plastic stock though. I guess I was a little ahead of Savage when I built this three years ago, 6x47 Rem Stevens 200 with a 20 barrel has a SSS competition trigger instead of the Accutrigger however plus the longer bolt handle makes it easier to grab and work the action in a hurry.

im guessing that part of the reason for the 1:10 twist is to stabalize heavies. 10.6gn Trail Boss bullet + 190 SMK MV 1055fps FOOPM!
