I am looking at some 22 Hornets, some have barrel lengths of 20 and some 22, it is going to be more of a fun gun, at the range and some not to series hunting, I am thinking 20" in it would be a nice handler, Ruger, Rem 799, have the 20", CZ and Browning are 22", what you say? Will velocity drop off that much with the new powders with a 20"? I am figuring it would be about equal to the old powders in a 22" barrel.

Thanks, Bob Too many calibers and not enough time for the working man to hunt with them all.

Mine has a 20" barrel and I love it. I use it on jack rabbits, coyotes & javelina in Texas and on all sorts of varmints and small antelope in Africa. It's one of my most fun guns.

GregR, I am not a chrono type of guy, just figure what the load manual sez for this load you get this MV, but you are happy with the Handiness of the 20"? What rifle do you have just out of couriosity? I am leaning towards the 20" just because, sure wish I bought a #3 in 76 in one when I bought my #3 45-70, Should have bought a 30-40 Krag then too, hind site is wonderfull!!! What bullets and grains to you shoot? I heard that the 40 or 45gr is about max for it.

Bought a 77 V, 22 Hornet with a 24" barrel.
Would like the handiness of a 20" and will eventually get it cut back.
Don't care about top velocitys, if I did, I'd still own a 220 swift.

FWIW, my handloads with a 40 gr Vmax over 13 grs. Li'l Gun clock just over 3,000 fps a few feet from the muzzle from my CZ Hornet.

My Hornet is an old M-70 with a 24" barrel, it seems ok to me, swings and feels like a 30-06 till you fire it , that rifle does around 2900 with LiL gun and a 45 gn TSX, wanted to try it on WT deer this year, but the buck i saw was wide racked and haulin' azz, no chance to place a careful shot. Mine only has a 10" barrel, but it seems pretty well matched fo the Hornet. It doesn't lose nearly as much velocity as some might think. I get 2650fps with 40gr Ballistic Tips, Lil'Gun, and Win cases.
