I'm looking for some halfway affordable ammo for 300-600 practice just to get in some trigger time.
I am using some handloads for hunting with this gun but don't have many left and I'm not gonna use ttsxs for banging steel either.
Just wanna buy 500 rounds of brass cased pref not fmj or the "special ball" 308 ammo I see advertised as a military equivalent round.
Something consistent that will get out to 500-600 and ring a steel plate. Just don't have time to reload it right now so no fed gmm right now unless it's super cheap on sale.
Any suggestions???
Rifle is a FN PBR X with the long 26" tube. Chrome lined, but so far a really great shooter with great glass on it for these ranges. Just gotta practice more.
Thanks

Why no fmj or ball ammo?

'cause it ain't accurate, wrapping the jacket around the forward portion of a slug and leaving the lead core exposed on the base is the most inaccurate way to make a bullet

Dude, you need to suck it up and buy a Dillon 550B or give up the idea of long range shooting. It is that simple.

If you don't have the income to just order Fed Gold Medal and not worry about the cost that is your only real alternative.

the last statement is the absolute truth.I got into it by missing a big Mule deer buck at 400 yards in the bottom of a canyon. I called my brother who was a scout sniper in the Marine Corps at the time to ask how I could keep this from happening again and he said without a hiccup ; " get your check book out"

I'll wait till I can load some up!
Wanted to see if anyone had a load that they used in place of GMM that was cheaper.
Thanks

JB

FMJ also seems to be tougher on my steel as well. even the good target steel. watching what tracers do at night after impact, I just don't like seeing em bounce accross the countryside.
They usually suck in accuracy dept. as well. At least all that cheap stuff.

Well, here goes. With the knowledge of some very experienced individuals in the 308 department I can give you a great load that not only duplicates the current M118LR but surpasses it in some respects. Check your PM.

The Fed GMM and the 175 smk can be duplicated by 43 grs of RL 15.

However, I highly recommend you practice with what you plan to use. It only makes sense.

I've shot a few but not past 300. Seem to be the bullet of choice for a lot of the long range 308 guys on here and this gun loves bullets in the 150-168 range.
Once I can get my wind doping a little more consistent this is gonna make a great long range gun. At 12 lb 2 oz all up w sling, 5-20 Trijicon mil-dot, and a pouch on the comb with 10 rounds and my dope sheet. I can see impact at anything over 200 yards.
Gonna supress it this year as well.
Thanks for the info. Anyone shoot SSA brass?? I have a ton right now.
