Thinking about getting a set of these, what's your take on them. I've always used the Leupold rings and bases and have no experience with any others.

Agreed, minus my Rugers (with their proprietary design), Talley Lightweights adorn all my hunting rifles.

I've abandoned my ideal on parting with the 700 Ti and what I'm thinking is removing the Leupold 3.5X10X40 and adding a Leupold Ultralight 3X9X33 and use the Talley rings/bases. I'll use the other Leupold later for a 300WSM if I ever decide to get it. I have an opprotunity later to do some hunting in Alaska if I ever decide to visit.

The best on the market as far as I am concerned. Especially if you want to keep the weight down.

Like the rings, but I think I'd keep the old scope.

I have used three or four sets of the Talley lightweights. They are not very pretty, but they are functional and I have not had any problems with them.

Another bonus is the great customer service I have received from the staff at Talley. Very accomodating.

Great mounts and their CS is even better. If anything ever goes wrong with their product (extremely rare, but I did manage to strip a screw hole on one of my alloy rings) just call them, send it in and they will replace it....no charge. I've never had a problem with the LW's which have become a favorite of mine.

Since I've only played with two sets of Talley LW so far, one Model 70 and a Remington 722, I'm certainly not as well versed as others here with them.

The last set I bought though, were from the Outfitter's Gear Shop right here at the 'Fire from our own Rick Bin.

He had them up to me here - across the medicine line no less - in very short order and at a very attractive price.

Hopefully that was some use to you. Good luck whichever way you decide and all the best to you in 2012.

Regards,
Dwayne

The Talley's or DNZ are all I use.

I agree with KDK in that switching to a 3-9x33UL is NO good. The 3-9x33Ultralight's weight savings isn't so great when optic performance is sacraficed. If you go with the Ultralight scope you will loose an easy half inch of eye relief and you loose important light gathering aperture. That is just wrong. Also crazy crazy wrong for just 3 ounces.

If you want to get a more trim/compact scope for a light rifle the VX-3 2.5-8x36 is about the very best available. Compared to the 3.5-10 you have now you can upgrade to a wider field of view at all ranges and get an additional 16 MOA for a total of 74 MOA elevation. While increasing performance you will also shed 1.25ozs weight, shorten your scope 1.25inches, and mount your scope lower. That is what I would run on your Ti.

Your 3.5-10 is a fine scope and would sell well on the Campfire Classifieds.

And about the Talley rings. Not my favorite but I have a few. They are nice and are an excellent choice for a Rem Ti.

I don't know how many sets of Talley Lwt's I've owned... well over a dozen. They work, period. And, Gary and crew at Talley are great people to work with. If something isn't right, it's fixed NOW, no fuss, no muss.

Yes, that is right. If you look up "customer service" they have Gary and Chris pictured there. If they lived close by, I wouldn't doubt they would drop off something on their way home!
Oh and the products........well over the last 4 years, I have converted just about everything over to the LW's.

+1. I used to use weaver bases and Burris Zee rings, but am migrating about everything to these two, with a few exceptions. They work, they're tough and they're lite....

The Talley's are the only thing I use. Have never had a problem with them so I can't comment on customer service.

I know some consider them ugly, I'm not one of them.

I find them more "business-like" than ugly... form perfectly following function.

There are a lot of ugly rings out there, but I don't think the Talley Lwt's are one of them.

YMMV.

All of my guns have Talley LW's save one .375 that Has talley steel quick detach rings.
My only bitch with them is they can be very difficult to keep your reticles straight when installing them. As the screws are torqued down they always seem to pull the reticle one way or the other.
