Anyone have one of these H-S Precision - Detachable Magazines in 223 that they can comment on? Seems to me I read a while back the ones for the 223 dont work so good, any comment good or bad are welcome. Will this set-up work with the factory rails left in place, or do you need to modify the factory rails to make this H-S Precision (CENTER FEED) - Detachable Magazine work, for the 223 rem caliber ? Whats the magazines overall length inside, for the 223 rem ? http://www.hsprecision.com/new_floor_plate.htm

Nice piece for sure. I had to open the feed lips on mine slightly to get it to feed but I am completely happy now.
Feed rails are eliminated with the center feed design. OAL of mine measure approx. 2.460" and easily handles everything up to the 75gr A-max........

I have one on a 223 AI. It did have to have the lips adjusted but feeds well. They are well built, require a bit of work to open the stock. The one down side for my application, they are very heavey. I don't know of any other option.

Well I spent the money on one of these H-S Precision detachable mag assemblys for my 222 mag IMP, I did have to tweek open the lips in the front of the mag to get it to feed well, but only took a minute or soo and was on my way to shooting. I am more then impressed with the quality of this piece, it is kinda heavy though. Already think'n of ordering another.........(Grin)

I'm curious about the work you have to do to the stock to make this piece fit. I was under the impression that this unit was a "drop-in" ... I'd hate to modify a stock, only to find out that I don't like the unit. Can anyone explain how much work needs to be done to make it fit right? And then, do those modifications prohibit you from going back to the factory bottom metal? And, if they dont actually prohibit you from going back, does the inletting work you have to do show when you replace it with the factory original bottom metal and mag?
Thanks!

Mine basicly fell right in place and fit like a glove, I did spend about 45 seconds with a file, were the mag latch release button was ever so slightly hitting inside the stock, but didnt take much to remedy with a small square needle file. Otherwise its very well made, and fits/works well.
I do need to find out if the magazines come apart for cleaning, anyone have any idea if/how these mags come apart ?
