What makes it "Super" over an ordinary not so Super Blackhawk?

dragoon style steel gripframe. Steel Ejector rod housing, unfluted cylinder, wide hammer spur. At least the ones I am familiar with are that way. Not sure if there have been some changes with the newer models

So is the new model SBH as strong as the old model BH?

So is the new model SBH as strong as the old model BH? Yes. The Super Blackhawk as opposed to the Blackhawk has, as has been said, a "Dragoon-style" grip frame, most of the time. Blackhawks generally, have a regular style that is both a bit smaller and made of aluminum as opposed to the steel on the Super. Super Blackhawks also generally have an unfluted cylinder, the rationale behind which is that the lack of flutes make the cylinder a bit stronger. This was all waylaid when Ruger came out with the 5 1/2" barreled Super Blackhawk in the mid-eighties, which had a round grip frame (I don't recall the material used in it) with a fluted cylinder. The Super Blackhawk Hunter model generally has an unfluted cylinder but still has a rounded grip frame. Further confusion is added by stainless Blackhawks having rounded triggerguard gripframes but being made of the same stainless as the rest of the gun, just as a stainless Super Blackhawk is. You can't go by caliber either since the first .44 Mags (the traditional caliber of the Super) were made as Blackhawks and now have been replicated by the 2006 50th Anniversary edition Blackhawk .44 Mag. There was a good explanation of all this on John Taffin's site. Unfortunately, the site went belly-up and as far as I know, has not come back online.

Well I'm thinking on picking up a Ruger Bisley Hunter in a 44mag. These are from what I gather a New Model Super Blackhawk, just wanted to make sure it would handle a full house load.

I've owned probably a half-dozen Super Blackhawks and one Bisley Blackhawk in .44 Mag., but never the Bisley Hunter. I would not think there would be any problem.

One more quickie...
Will the grips from an "old" model Bisley Vaquero fit a New Model SBH?

No, the one is a Bisley while the other not. Check out this link for a more detailed explanation. The pic all the way on the bottom really shows the differences. http://www.gunblast.com/Hamm_Ruger-SA-GripFrames.htm

Thanks for the link.
Should have worded my question better. Will a grip from my old model Bisley Vaquero fit a New Model SBH Bisley Hunter? Both being Bisley's, the latter being a "Super".

Yes, the original Bisley Vaquero and the current Bisley Hunters are the same gripframe. All the Bisleys are the same, even the Single-Six .22s and .32s.....
As to the term "Super Blackhawk", it has to do only with the size of the gripframe. Almost all Super Blackhawks were .44 Magnum with the exception of the .41 Magnum and .45 Colt Hunters. They are also always steel.
All Ruger gripframes are interchangeable to any size frame. So if you wanted to you could put a steel square back Super Blackhawk gripframe on a .22 Single-Six...smart man Bill Ruger was...
