This one weighs 10lbs and on that day it was none too heavy.

[Linked Image]

Winds were gusting to 50mph.

I sure do shoot a heavy rifle better and I shot from the top of the ridge behind me.

To each his own but I just cant shoot the flyweight rifles with consistency from field positions.

Sure does suck to pack a heavy gun but it sucks more to have to climb the hill again tomorrow because I couldnt make the shot. laugh

Nice Ram!!!!

I agree with you about heavier rifles being easier to shoot, particularly in windy conditions.

As I posted earlier, I have taken all 4 NA sheep, with my Weatherby Fibermark .257- not exactly a lightweight, but a rifle in which I had extreme confidence to deliver when the time came- and it did.

You need to put a real sling on that thing.....laffin! If you show up out here for the shoot I'll have to fix you up.

Take a knee, Scenar owns Montana Rifle Slings which is what he's referring to. A darn good sling I might add!! cool

Vek,

That rifle is equal parts cool (with character) and function. My favorite of this thread...and there are some nice ones.

This Fannin ram was taken on my first sheep hunt in the Yukon. I used an 11#+ Model 70 .270

I learned all the hype about light rifle for sheep hunting was true and I came home and put together another M70 in .300WSM. That came out at 7lb 4oz.

My best sheep hunt came in 2007. A month long archery tag in Colorado with my recurve.

Since then I came into a 700 Ti in ..270 Win that I did a little work to and ended up at 6lb 2oz as shown below. 700 on top, 70 on the bottom.

The 700 is the first NON M70 I have ever used for big game and it is making a believer out of me.

My NEXT sheep hunt, if it is a Dall or Desert will be all Remington. When I draw my Bighorn on WY or MT, I will go for a couple weeks with my TallTines recurve, and then come back late with the .270 if necessary.

My two favorite subjects, sheep hunting and lightweight rifles. My main go-to rifle has been my 300 WSM Ti Browning. I love everything about this rifle, including the tang safety, short bolt throw, Duratouch stock coating etc..... It weighs 6 3/4 all up with a Swaro AV 4-12x50, and is wonderfully accurate...

My newest rifle is a Rifles Inc Titanium Strata in 300 WinMag. It wears the same scope as the Browing, and comes in at about 5 1/2 pounds. I shot this Stone in 2011 with it.

Great photos. I took a ram 10 years ago in the Pryors. In my quest to only use levers, I used a BLR in 7-08 with a 139-grain Hornady Interlock hand load.
