Right, wrong key. Still wouldn't like the rents much for that.
Thanks for the advice. I'll look him up. Any suggestions or do I just google the name?
I hope to hit the range this Friday and start the annual patterning event.

Yeah, just Google him. IMO, he's a great guy. He'll talk and talk chokes and turkey hunting. Even then, I've never gotten the impression that he's trying to sell you on anything or act like the super expert. He's just really passionate. I'm sending him a Benelli M2 20ga for a trigger job.
Good luck with your pattering! It's expensive if you're using the good stuff, but a bunch of fun. I rarely kill birds beyond 35-40yd. However, time at the patterning board instills a lot of confidence and it's reassuring to know you can kill much further. You just never know when a tom will hang-up or hen-up.

ok here goes
for yrs i used a savage stevens 12 ga sxs with just the right side full barrel had to let many a locked bird or ones in strut outta range go about their way gun was maybe a 35 -40 yard gun shot the old federal #5 3 inch 2 oz load would get maybe 15-20 kill hits at 40 on paper i was succesful with the gun very succesful at times but i could have whacked many more birds if i had dedicated turkey gun after years of telling the wife this that and the other about birds i let go and wishing i could get a turkey gun her my parents and her parents got me 400 bucks in wally world gift cards i got an 835 ulti mag turkey gun
probably spent 350-400 dollars over the next 3 months doing turkey shell and choke experiments seeing what the gun liked
anyways during this entire time i was on the nitro ray and rhino websites kinda knowing in the back of my head that was whta i wanted
but ...... i was dumb and played around shot the factory choke shot the ported factory choke shot the hevi 13 loads#6 mostly shot the federal loads shot winchester er loads shot the briley hevis shot choke shot what remained on the market of the remington hevi shot stuff at the time shot the jelly head choke tried to look for a star dot remember walking by them at wally world over the years a guy on another site has for sale at least he did a month or so ago
the best choke and shell combo i shot that i found at 1st was the strut stopper extreme ( not the wally world gobble stopper extreme)in .670 with hevi 13 2 1/4 oz #6 load i was getting 220-235ish pellet count in 10 inches at 40 yrds with that combo and anywheres from 40-50 "kill" hits on paper none of the rest came close to that even the win er load and the old rem hevi shot loads still i knew the nitro shell and rhino combo was what i wanted
hunted that 1st spring with the combo of sse and the hevi13 killed 3 birds 2 of them right around 40-43 yards a shot i wouldnt take with the old sxs sitting in the closet
i made the move saved the money sold the sxs got the .680 2inch extended rhino choke put a sims pad on it set of truglo pro series sights on it and polished the barrel got 15 501L 3.5 inch 2 5/8ths oz #4c x#5c x#7h sheels from nitro ray in missouri(took 3 weeks for the shells to get to me) took that in stride went to pattern it was getting 310-320+ hits alone in 10 inches at 40 and from 75-85+ (alot of unknown# uncountable big holes)"kill"hits on paper 1st bird i killed was at 52-53 yards that spring was a bang flop shot...
held onto to the gun for 4 years hit bad times had a rifle in pawn i definately didnt want to lose choice sell the gun a guy on another website watched me drop the price on the gun and got it for 325 i know the man is gonna be happy with it talked to him for about 2hrs during the sale and his buddy had a nitro rhino remington set up i basically told him you got him man a mossy will out peform a remington set up with the nitro rhino combo
anyways i wasnt to bent about selling the gun i had some bad instances of nitro ray and his mom and pop reloading shop anyways some sheel would drop dramatically in pellet count almost to what his copper shot loads count would be i actually called the guy up and asked him what was going from his loads year to year one year they would be in brown fiocchi hulls then another box would be in red federal hulls i started talking about components hull combustion chamber differences wad changes he didnt seem to care but he sent me 10 red hulled federal loads for free anyways just seemed like bait and switch to me and if something works why change it he seemed to me to be looking for less expensive components i called him one time and actually asked him if i could send red federal hulls i could get from midsouth here in clarksville to load up and asked him if he could tell me the type of wad he used and i would send him those also and he could chrge me the same price still
he was not happy this was after a conversation via email i had with him and he said the red federals were hard for himto get
anyways i got another mossy 835 ulti mag out of a pawn shop newer than the one i had and the camo is in way better condition had been reading about the mag blend 3.5 readily available down the road at midsouth and gonna get a strut stopper extreme .670 aint gonna get a simms pad again(they detoirerate guys and get spongy keep any and all oil off of them and they are way to porus and hold water way to much in my opinon)gonna get another same set of sights and give this guncombo a whirl i have heard the pellet counts are int 300+ range with the mag blends have seen posting of pics of patterns for them
anyways looking forward to turkey season
gonna start another thread for pics to get people antsy for turkey here in the next 80-90 days season starts on ftcky the last week of march and then starts the 1st week of april here in tn
combined the most i ever shot in one season was 6 the # 7 season has been outta my reach and the 8 season is a mythical beast i wish i could do some day i did learn alot from the niotro ray website he does have good advice about patterning guns probably the best advice that i learned from that was when patterning to clean between each shot so all the shots are the same sheet of music and to polish only the barrel of an 835 dont lengthen its forcing cone i polished my barrel with jb paste and jewlers rouge use and imp or cyl choke when you polish a barrel not your turkey choke
good luck this year to all of you!!!!!!
