As a superintendent of schools of many years I can say that the school board is most likely trying to treat the employees equitably. Teachers already have liberal amounts of leave time but it appears that the individual had used hers up. Most superintendents would be willing to grant leave without pay but few teachers are willing for that because their daily rate is very high when it is based on 180 days a year.
