I am new to rifle relaoding but a seasoned hunted.I have a question. I recently began reloading for my 7mm Rem Magand want to know the best way to determine the best spacing between the bullet and the barrel riflings. The reloading manual gives a max length ( i bekieve) 3.294 but that length is too long for my gun., Can any of you old times impart with some of your wisdom and knowledge? Thanks in Advance.

TxG Take a look at my reply to What's The Next Step" on 10/01 on how to make a cheap, but it works, bullet seating gauge using a cleanig rod. Most guys seat their bullets .020-.080 off the lands but each gun is different.Experiment and let us know how you made out.284LUVR

I am not convinced the distance from the lands is that critical for most applications. I try and set the ogive .030 from the lands. My Stoney Point guage said somewhere from .020-.040, so I went in between. But you can throw those measurements out the window if your magazine is short.

Well 284LUVR , I tried what you said and I found the the lands are .090 from the bullets I am loading. I am loading 7mm Rem Mag 160 nosler accubonds @ 3.252. Max length according to my book is 3.290 therefore my chamber length is 3.342. I think I am going to stick to the 3.252 . Bullet does prreform well .It shoots quarter size at 100 yards with 62 grains of IMR 4831 But IMR says max load is 61 grains and nosler says max load is 63 graing. Who is right?.

Seems like Nosler is always loading their loads hot compared to the powder makers and other bullet makers. I have had good luck with the recommendations so far though. I just work up with caution when using Nosler load data.
