I use everything from a little Jennings 22 L.R. Pistol I tuned up to function properly to some 12ga shotguns. The 6 shots out of the 22 will dissuade most bad guys.

.38 Special/9mm Parabellum. Shower proof, I assume?

Subject: Personal Protection
What is the smallest caliber weapon you trust to protect yourself?
My personal favorite defense gun has always been a Beretta Jetfire 22 short. Over all the years I've been hiking, I never leave without it in my pocket. Of course we all know that the first rule when hiking in the wilderness is to use the "Buddy System". For those of you who may be unfamiliar with this, it means you NEVER hike alone, you bring a friend or companion, even an in-law, that way if something happens there is someone to go get help.
I remember one time hiking with my wife and mother-in-law on Raspberry Island near Kodiak. Out of nowhere came this huge brown bear and man was she mad. We must have been near one of her cubs.
Anyway, if I had not had my little Jetfire I'd sure not be here today.
Just one shot to my mother-in-law's knee cap and I was able to escape by just walking at a brisk pace.
I sure love that little gun...
Partsman,
What you wrote above about shooting your mother in law is disgusting.
I suggest that you delete it and have the moderator or myself then change my quote.
Thank you
All guns should be locked up when not in use!

Savage, if partsman invites you for a walk on Raspberry Island near Kodiak it may be wise to decline.

That smallest would be the Ruger Security Six snubbie in my wife's nightstand loaded with Federal 129 gr HS 38 Special +P's. The other nightstand holds a Para 16-40 rebarreled to 10mm loaded with Hornady 155 gr XTP's.

I took a page out of G.Gorden Liddy's book.. You can't get between me and an already loaded gun in the house... I don't care how you come in or what window you use..
