I have a burris fastfire 2 w/ the QD adapter on mine. I don't like the on/off switch But I don't have to remove it to use my BUIS sights.

It purely depends on your intended use.

The 1.5-5 illuminated Leupold shown below is on a Colt 16" AR at home now. It has killed a few yotes and serves as a general purpose rifle.

Heck, it has even served as a grouse head remover...

A brick simple TAO1 ACOG is on my lightweight custom build:

Never a bad choice either.

Nothing glamorous here. My one and only is currently topped with a Burris Fullfield 2x7 with the ballistic plex reticle, but I also have a Vortex Strikefire red/green dot sight that can be installed in a jiffy.

I went the cheap route out of necessity and put a Primary Arms M4 multi reticle clone on mine. I'm on a budget and since this is a range toy, I couldn't afford big money on optics. I did have a 3-9 Weaver on it but I just didn't like it due to the short eye relief. I'm much happier with the PA red dot for plinking and plan on getting a magnifier with flip mount in the future.

Thanks for the offer Dan. It'll be a while before I buy anything else, so I'll pass for now. I'm learning that shopping without money will make you miserable, lol.

I had a VX-III 1.5x5 but always wanted more power and just tonight got a new Nikon M-223 in 2x8, looks bout right. They seem to be a pretty good value for the buck but need some quality field/trigger time to be sure.

I also have one of the Burris AR332's, which seems to work okay. As bulky as it is, however, I think it will gravitate to the AR10's carbine barrel, and the AR15 carbine will get either an ACOG or one of the Leupold Prismatics - both of which cost more, of course!

I have a Eotech 512 on my M4. The M4 is a business weapon and the Eotech works great on it.

I have Leupolds on other AR's. Depends on the intended use. For hunting 4 legged creatures I find a mid power scope works best for me. I have always been happy with a Leupold 3x9. I would love to have a AR specific scope but justifying the investment....

Several years back a group of about 10 of us at work got issued Eotechs, but I don't remember which model and I don't have mine anymore.

About half of the Eotechs ran fine for thousands of rounds, never a hiccup. The other half were constantly losing zero and going dead. Same sights, same rifles, same round counts, stored in the same cases in the same kind of car trunks. I dunno....

"Try before you buy" is the advice I'd give. Depending on your eyesight, some of these scopes work poorly. The Eotech and the Aimpoint micro, to give two examples, both appear very pixelated or fuzzy to my eyes. The prism sights work fine.

5 years ago I would have thought people crazy to put a 4.5 x 14 x 50 on an AR. After hunting with a 3.5 x 10 x 50 on my AR this year, I had no problem getting on a deer at 4X while he walked across a logging road. So I am crazy it seems as well...

If i use a scope on mine it's a vortex 2-7 viper with BDC. I use open sights for close range work.

The EO Tech was on my "next optic to buy list" until I tried one. Yes its a great very fast to get on with device, and then watching the owner "turn it on" "adjust the brightness" AND "turn it off" after using had me scratching my head. I leave my rifle with Comp M4 aimpoint in the safe, I turn it on when it comes out and it stays on with the caps up as long as the rifle is in my possession. Some don't ever turn them off. So the Eotech when and if they develop an "instant on" feature when the rifle is moved and an "automatic off" feature when the rifle is stationary for 30 minutes then I would reconsider, oops forgot about the battery contact issue and that the sideways batteries are more reliable than length of bore batteries....on and on...
