New member here, I have a savage 1899 A in 30WCF. I was told it was manufactured in 1903. cal. 30-30, 26" round barrel serial # 26.x7x. I have not removed the stock or forearm to verify the ###s yet.If any one has any input on this I would appreciate it. Also have Savage 99 centennial with walnut case. These were given to me by my father.
Thanks Here is a link that should do it. http://billbarbsplace.shutterfly.com/pictures/51#51
I actually bought my first 99 300 savage back in 1976, got my first deer with it in 1976, then in 2000 my son got his first elk with the 99.

Welcome! I think that serial will letter as a 1901 production. The wood has been replaced and the lever modified.

The Centennial will hold its value as long as you keep it as originally shipped with all papers. Low numbers will bring a premium.

the gun was built with a straight stock not a pistol grip... the lever should go straight back and not have a large curve in it.

Thanks for the info. I did see a chart listing the features of the different models, which indicated exactly what you just said . So maybe I'll have to keep an eye out for the correct parts.

Welcome to the campfire!

You would need a new stock for that early 1899A, plus a replacement buttplate, plus a lever. Can find the levers and buttplates listed on ebay or gunbroker occasionally, but finding a stock is near impossible.

A few places might be able to help you out with a replacement. Boses of Nebraska might have a stock template they could fit to your receiver, don't know what they charge. If you're a woodworker or somebody who learns quick and has a lot of patience, some other places on the net sell replacement stocks - but they'll take hours and hours of fitting.

Here is one of our member's 1899A's, so you can see what it looked like originally.

I may just have to keep my eyes open a lot longer. In the mean time I suppose I could make up a story about why the stock needed to be replaced. smirk laugh
