Loads, suggestions, comments (all) welcomed.
Rifle: Rem. 700 LSS.
Will be used for whitetail deer at up to 600yds, BUT only if I, the rifle, and load are fully capable of a clean one shot kill at that range!
Loads, ballistics, trajectory, etc for the .338 RUM using Rem brass, Fed 215M Gold Medal, 180gr Nosler BT's.
Powders currently on the shelf: H4831sc, H4350, H414. Will purchase others if enough info indicates better performance.

I would not use the 180 BT's - not enough BC.

I have used this load to shoot targets and rocks past 1200 yds in a 338 RUM Sendero;

300 Matchking HP BC - .798
Rel 25 or H1000 (work up your load)
RP cases
Fed 215 Goldmetal Match primers
COL - touching the lands

2600 fps and sub moa at all ranges.

The matchking would flatten a deer at the ranges your talking about.

I�m with creek on this at least a 250gr slug, it will buck the wind better and after all it is a 33 bore. You can shoot a 180gr slug with a 30cal take advantage of the heavier bullets available to you.

I would also go with a slower burning powder then what you have on hand H870, Retumbo, R25 and IMR7828 will work nice with that 215 primer

I know I'd have been better off with a heavier bullet, BUT I have 150 Nosler 180 gr BT's that I am stuck with, thats why I specified them. I am hoping someone out there already has a good "long range" deer load worked up for them or some suggestions for one.

3521 fps (99.0gns in my rifle only!)

recoil - ah, yup!

Go with heavier bullets.. The light bullets don't have the BC or the energy after 500yds.. Make your life easier and go with either a 225gr Accubond or a 250gr something

Here are the loads that I am using in my M700 LSS 338 RUM w/ a Leupold VXIII 2.5x8 scope. I am using R-P brass and Federal GM215M primers. My COL is 3.640".

200 gr BT
RL22 90.0 grs
best 3 shot group @ 100 yds .325"

210 gr PT
RL22 92.0 grs
best 4 shot group @ 100 yds .425"
best 3 shot group @ 300 yds 1.285" (2 shots were .590")

225 gr PT
RL22 89.5 grs
best 3 shot group @ 100 yds .450"

225 gr AB
RL25 97.0 grs
best 4 shot group @ 100 yds .790"
( I am working with this bullet to find a better load)

250 gr PT
RL25 90.0 grs
best 4 shot group @ 100 yds .490"

All loads came from the Nosler Reloading Guide #5 and are just below Max. Work up carefully. Let me know how these loads work for you.

I'll trade you 150 Nosler 2nd 200 grain Ballistic Silvertips for the 150 180 grain BTs.

My 338-06 loves the 180 BT

Thanks, that would be a good trade BUT I have already started loading them - haven't been to the range yet. Deer season starts in 1 month and I've got to get a load and PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE, to see what range I am capable of.

I agree the 180 NOT the way to go. Find a bullet at least 225 gr - 250gr woud be better with a good BC. Bullets heavy for caliber will perform much better way out there than the lightweights.
