Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born on this date January 27, 1756 in Salzburg, Austria. He is among the most enduringly popular of classical composers.

Mozart had 14 children - his organ didn't have any stops.

Mozart was no doubt a musical genius and could write music notes before he could write words.

Sam, thanks for the link. That particular passage is from Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. It was used as the theme song for the movie, Somewhere in Time.

Toccata and Fugue in D Minor. The opening to the movie classic "Rollerball".

Sam, here's one for you.

Korean pianist Hae-Sun Paik playing the third movement to Rachmaninoff's Third Piano Concerto. She demonstrates flawless technique; this is one of my favorite videos.

Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture's a masterpiece.

Interesting to read the comments here on folks "favorite" composers - almost all of them tend to mention just one 'best" composition in connection with that composer. All a matter of perspective, I suppose. Maybe it depends if one is a listener, or a listener and performer.

Have been listening and performing Mozart (and many, many others) in some form or another for more than 60 years. Don't know how I could reduce any of them to one or two best compositions.
Maybe worth a try?
Nah !!!
