Hi, I have recently aquired a 788 in 222. I've been reloading various calibers for about 3 years now and has yet to see this issue.

When I put the decapping rod into the die, the sleeve(?) that screws into the top of the die seems to stop the case from getting a full resize. Instead I'm getting 3/4 of the neck sized only. When I pull the decapper assembly out, I have no issues getting the sizing done.
My question: Do I have a mismatched die? I bought the set used so it's quite likely. (yes, I know the lock ring is the newer style - I changed that out right away.) Is there a shorter "sleeve"?

Call RCBS customer service, they will more than likely send ya a new assembly for free used or not. Thats IME with their customer service. Top Notch.

Any chance that the expander button on the decapping pin is bottoming out in the case, preventing the full stroke?

Just a thought.

Yup, that was it! Just bottoming out on the expander button. I now remember how it happened as well. I was experimenting with leaving the decapping rod loose so that the necks would have a better chance at being concentric. Thanks a bunch!
