Have any of you rented a chamber reamer from the various vendors and chambered a rifle with it? I have no idea of the good, bad, or ugly of this. My idea is just chamber a standard chamber, no special bullet in mind. Have no idea if I'm opening a can of worms or not.

I rent them from time to time and if you are just doing one or two it pays. Once I got a reamer that was a little dull and it cut the chamber fine. I get mine from 4D i think.

Done it a bunch. Elk Ridge Reamer Rentals at Reamerrentals.com The reamers are PTG's pretty much. I've even asked for a couple of different pilots on floating pilot reamers.

4D and no problems - I use them when it's one I don't expect to need again.

You can buy a new reamer, being asured it's ground the way you want and then sell it on ebay for what it would cost you to rent a reamer. You have no control over the dimensions or condition of the rental reamer.

I rent from White Rock Tool & Die. I don't rent often, but I do rent when the customer has an uncommon chambering that I will likely never see again. The reamers that I have gotten from White Rock have been sharp and clean. They allow 30 days to do the work and return the reamer. The only "downside" is that you have to call them and talk with a human rather than ordering from a website. Hmmmmm........ 816-454-0478.

1) I know a gunsmith that has all his own reamers and a fixture for sharpening them.
Each rifle he chambers, he charges the rental rate as a line item.
2) I only do my own amateur gunsmithing. I own ~ 14 reamers and never share them.
3) I watched my brother rent a reamer to chamber a 264WM. The wrong reamer showed up. Then the reamer that came next was missing the pilot. And they want 2 day turn around.
I would have never rented a reamer anyway, but watching my brother learn to never rent a reamer was funny.

Clemson Even though I have most of the reamers I have calls for I do use White Rock on occasion for odd stuff and have never had a problem to date... Keith is a gentleman to deal with and his reamers are well-cared for..
