What's available for the housebound Savage nUt? Maybe an internet filter for "Savage" is all I need?!

Go here and click the VCR-like play icon in the upper right of the screen. Click on the screen once it starts playing and it will go full-screen. Won't help you get over your addiction, but will keep you away from auction sites for a while. http://www.savagefest.net/SavageFest_2010/

Does stereotypical group therapy apply here? My name's Roy and I'm a Savage nUt. "Hi Roy!" It's been 12 hours since I bought a Savage. "Oh Roy, what happened?" I was surfing the internet sites and... "Oh Roy..." From the back corner- "It's ok Roy, we're here for you man!" It was a 99C in an uncatalogued caliber... "That's ok Roy, you can always find a buyer for it..." The worst part, sobbing now, it was NIB. I am WEAK! I am WEAK! "We understand Roy. Those NIB Savages are strong poison. And an uncatalogued caliber? Oh my, how could you take it? How could any of us?" I need help. uncontrolled sobbing- How can I live with myself? What will my friends... what will my wife say? Are we having fun yet?! I thought I'd start a thread where I could work through some personal issues out in the open, you know, for accountability and all, with an understanding, but probably not real helpful, group of guys.

Easy there fella, watch the blood pressure! 99C as in late C, not early, sorry. Looks like a 1985, in 300 Savage, from my limited knowledge. What say you?

Nice find! Looks.. umm.. just like mine did. They were catalogued in the late 90's. Mine was from 1997. Very rare though.

Late 90's they catalogued the 243, 308 and 300 Savage in case you want to make a note in your Murray's. I had the trifecta for a while. 1996 308: 1997 243: 1999 300 Savage above.

Aha! Thank you. I made two important discoveries today.
1) 99C offered later 2) Spell check was invented because of the word "catalogued"
I am interested to know more about these later years guns, not so much about the spell check. I saw a reference to a 1996 gun the other day and I was scratching my head. I will start with internet searches, but where else could I study up? Roy

Don't know that there's anywhere else except here.
Here's my understanding of 1987 on..
Savage dropped the 99 line around the time Ron Coburn took over the company, which was 1987 I think. Dropped pretty much everything but the 110's in order to cut costs and save the company. Then about 1992 Savage tried to resurrect the 99 by outsourcing the manufacturing to Spain - these are the Spanish Llama 99's. Pretty much a failure, Savage had to rework them before they could be sold and that stopped the mfr'ing again. Then at a later time in the 90's (1996? 1994?) Savage starting up the 99C production again, and I believe it continued up to the very early 2000's.
You also had the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation rifles and the Centennial rifles produced in the 90's.
Savage 99 production and sales seems to have been abysmally slow in the 90's, which can be seen by the simple fact that you don't see hardly any for sale.

I got a PM from a member here just now saying these were made using leftover centennial barrels. Does that fit? Thank you so much for the overview, that's extremely helpful to me.

The Centennials were in 1996, I doubt they had so many barrels left over that they could catalog them through 1999 and later. And if they were doing 243 and 308, chambering new barrels in 300 Savage would have been trivial. Thread on it from before: http://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/3784299/1

Savage catalogs show the 99C being made from 1965-1997. Note that no catalogs were made (I think) in 1984 and 1985. Tom

Tom, do the catalogs show the 99C being made from 87 through 91?
I'm not sure anybody has ever seen a 99 from these years that I know of.

Interesting, read several articles about Ron Coburn about how he shut down all Savage production except the 110. Something new to watch for.

Reading the other 24 Hour thread, I'm wanting to understand how to date this rifle when it arrives, and how did Savage date the later 99's? The letter prefix in the serial number?

A few of us have serial numbers for later years. Post it up and we'll date it for you.

Rory, just some clarification. In the 1994 catalog it stated 99C Limited Availability. In the 1995 catalog it states 99C Available 11/01/95. Tom

Aah, so they might have been shut down for 94/95 and just going off of existing inventory.
Wonder if Callahan was still working there at that time?
